  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Is there independent objective evidence that the Bible is God's Word?

Is accepting the Bible is God's Word simply a matter of faith or is there also independent objective evidence available?

What has the "lying pen" in Jeremiah 8:8 altered?

We have people now saying the Bible means x, y and z, hence the thousands of denominations. The fact you and I are debating here illustrates the problem! Sadly, there is a history of argument and even violent conflict over who understands the Bible right. Humans use the Bible to support their...

What has the "lying pen" in Jeremiah 8:8 altered?

The next verse is helpful here: Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you. 3 For the days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will restore the fortunes of my people, Israel and Judah, says the Lord, and I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their ancestors, and...

What has the "lying pen" in Jeremiah 8:8 altered?

There's no mention of it being just that generation. In fact it says in the next verse "No longer shall they teach one another or say to each other, “Know the Lord,” for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord,"

What has the "lying pen" in Jeremiah 8:8 altered?

Jeremiah later prophesies in chapter 31 that the days are coming when I will make a new covenant, and I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts so I guess that was one way God did something about it. If you put the law in their minds and write it on their hearts, you don't...

What has the "lying pen" in Jeremiah 8:8 altered?

How do you know that God is trying to tell us that 'How can you say, “We are wise, for we have the law of the Lord,” when actually the lying pen of the scribes has handled it falsely?' means “Be still and know that I am God”? How do you know that "He , if He answers, answers in a very quiet...

What has the "lying pen" in Jeremiah 8:8 altered?

Thanks for your replies and for the Revelation example. I will ask separately about the implications of what Scripture says in these verses about itself on the other forum once I've allowed some time for more responses on the questions here.

What has the "lying pen" in Jeremiah 8:8 altered?

I quoted a Bible verse and asked to what it refers. How is that "controversial theology"? Thanks for your reply. Are you implying that the "law of the Lord" or the "Lord's Instruction" refers to either the first five books of the Bible or everything up to but not including Jeremiah?

What has the "lying pen" in Jeremiah 8:8 altered?

Jeremiah 8:8 in the NIV says: How can you say, “We are wise, for we have the law of the Lord,” when actually the lying pen of the scribes has handled it falsely? In the NRSVUE, it is rendered: How can you say, “We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us,” when, in fact, the false pen of...

Questions on God's wrath and the Fall

I appreciate the continued discussion on this post. It is helpful to see the different approaches people of different Christian backgrounds take to these questions. How do you envisage basing our definitions on the definition in Scripture? How would we define love for example based solely on...
