  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Her Father's Engagement Demands!?

Hello again – I’m the guy who originally posted this question, and wanted to say thanks! Some responses were more practical than others, but as fellow Christians, there’s no need for me to nit-pick at every single response I personally disagreed with – or...

    Her Father's Engagement Demands!?

LinkH, You’re helping to shed light on this vital issue – and I do appreciate your efforts – but I disagree with your stance, which is very black-and-white. For example, you stated: - “The Bible never teaches us we all have to 'stand up to Dad.'...

    Her Father's Engagement Demands!?

I'm not proposing anything "negative". When somebody sins against us (i.e. manipulation, gossip, etc), the Biblical guidance is to go to them and lovingly confront them - and that's what I'm doing. If somebody chooses to hold a grudge or act in a particular manner because of that, it's beyond my...

    Her Father's Engagement Demands!?

Proverbs states: “the wise have many councillors” – and sometimes I think perspectives from non-biased strangers can be very useful. As usual on ChristianForums.com, there’s been insight from both sides of the fence. Although decisions can’t be based on mathematics, it’s interesting to note that...

    Her Father's Engagement Demands!?

My girlfriend (27) and I (31) have begun talking engagement. Butting in, her father recently expressed to her that he wants to ensure I ask him for his daughter's hand in marriage. Although this is more of a tradition/formality than a Biblical "commandment", it’s nevertheless something I...

    Unmarried couple on holiday?

There’s certainly differing opinions, and I’m grateful for all of your efforts! Rather than pulling Bible verses out of context, I think Christians have to put aside our biased denominational differences, use the reasoning capacity we’ve been given, and get back to the...

    Unmarried couple on holiday?

Both of you - thanks for your comments. I have to agree with The Nihilist's rebuttal. I do not think that God require adults to submit to their parents. "HONOUR your mother and father" - I absolutely agree. However, "SUBMIT to your mother and father" no matter what – absolutely not...

    Unmarried couple on holiday?

My girlfriend and I were about to book a holiday - however, before we finalised everything, her father expressed concerns, and tried to sway her from going. As you can guess, his allegations of potential sexual immorality were his concern. However, very early on in our relationship, my...
