  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Are Study Bibles Really Needed?

I am reading the study Bible - New English Translation or NET,. It has 60,000 footnotes, and I have learned a lot. And I am a seminary graduate. Two things against this, is you need to know the Hebrew and Greek alphabets, and some background and vocabulary of those languages. The second thing...

Sovereignty--the most important characteristic of God

I agree with the OP the sovereignty of God is essential to our faith. But the most important? I think the personal nature of God, that he is relational in both the economic and immanent Trinity is probably the most important definition of who God is. Because the Trinity is relational, God is...

    Traditional Theology Census

Marlene My Eastern Orthodox grandparents pushed to have me in church. So my parents sent me across the alley, to a Baptist church, where I learned and memorized many Scriptures, which stayed with me. A move put me into the apostate United Church of Canada for a few years, then the Unitarian...

    The same storys?

Matthew, Mark and Luke are called “The Synoptic” gospels. That means “same eye.” They are based on the same events. John also overlaps, being a gospel, but it also has many different stories. Further, Matthew was written to the Jews, and Luke was written to one Theophylus, a lover of God. Luke...

What is the "official" Bible of the Catholic Church? The KJV or Douay-Rheims?

I bought the New American Bible before I was saved, and read it. Then God saved me! Looking back, it really was an excellent translation, it flows well, and is good with translating the Greek and Hebrew. What I didn't like, were all the Catholic footnotes, denying the verses said what they did...

Is There A Bible In Chronological Order?

Rather than getting a new Bible, you may just want to access some chronological reading plans. I did that for a few years, and it was excellent. The only drawback, is sometimes you have to go to quite a few places. For instance, in the Synoptic gospels, they often say the same thing. So, you may...

    Preferred translations

I'm reading the NET right now. (New English Translatlon) I bought the full notes version, which sometimes requires a magnifying glass for the superscripts! I have learned a lot of background and translational issues reading all the notes. Before that I read HCSB, ESV before that, along with...

Which Bible Version is closest to the original Hebrew and Greek Texts?

I agree with you totally! There are so many good modern Bible translations out there, anyone can read at their level and the Holy Spirit. But learning Greek and Hebrew was a calling for me. I already spoke, and even taught other languages. So, for me, it was a natural progression to learn the...

Which Bible Version is closest to the original Hebrew and Greek Texts?

I am reading the NET full notes version right now. It has a huge amount of footnotes, comments on word useage, grammar, Greek and Hebrew and variations in the manuscripts. Of course, I read Hebrew and Greek, so I find this is interesting to read. In the past, I have read NASB, NIV, ESV, HCSB...

    Newish Christian

Which version of the Bible are you trying to read? I read the Bible in many modern versions, and also in French, German, the OT in Hebrew and the NT in Greek. I have studied those languages, so it isn't hard. But, there are older versions I have never been able to get through, despite reading...

Is Christian school really better than public?

I was a teacher in BC for years, I tried to teach specialties like music and French. Even then, I always but on Christmas concerts, using one song with winter songs. The kids and parents loved it. I was very sick at the end of my fourth year in that school. I always had to fight to do a...

Girlfriend has had sex before marriage, what to do?

Premaritial sex can easily be forgiven. She is not a Christian, after all! The first step of showing Christ is being like him. Jesus would have forgiven her immediately. Plus, if you are in a loving relationship it honestlydoesnt matter what the other person has done. It doesn't change an...

Can a person never sin again?

This whole thread is based on a poor understanding of salvation. It is not all just one point and we are perfect. Or we work hard (works-salvation, anyone?) and suddenly we don't sin anymore. God is the one who has ordained this order of salvation, but so few people are aware of it! To which I...

Prayer for God to ease my body's pain

Thank you so much for your reposes and prayers! I got my miracle! Last night, I was exercising, and doing some side leg lifts, and both hips went "clunk!" As in subluxed hips moving back into place. I have not been able to go from sitting to standing without screaming from the pain in months...

Prayer for God to ease my body's pain

I suffer from severe Rheumatoid Arthritis. Two of my meds were hard on the liver. My rheumatologist took me off them, when my liver enzymes went up. Now, I am in terrible pain. I even went back on one drug, I was hurting so badly, but it is not helping yet, like it used to. I am taking lots of...
