  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Woman Caught in Adultery john 8

The story of the woman caught in adultery (pericope adulterae) is likely not a part of the original text of the gospel of John. 1. The oldest copies of the gospel of John widely vary in the story's location in the book, some copies not having the story at all. In other words, a group of...

    Trinity=Monotheism?

May I ask a question? The phrase "one God in three persons" has the ring of "God" being an office or position that is simultaneously held by three distinct individuals. The fact that they are in "agreement" with one another does not somehow mean they are together a singular being. To involve...

"7 seals" revealed as 'beyond Einstein theories'

Being that this is based on absolutely no manner of Biblical exegesis, I would say that it's a view utterly impossible to defend.

    1 Maccabees

You're not giving an answer to my original question. I've asked a specific question, and am looking for answers to that question. You're sidestepping the issue entirely to answer a completely different question. If you could please step out, as this answer is not helpful for me.

    1 Maccabees

Is "useful for doctrine" a necessity for it to be considered divinely inspired? It seems that such a criteria is ignored by most Christians when it comes to various books that are usually left alone. (e.g. Esther or Chronicles)

    Protestants-biblically prove ONE Mediator

This verse seems pretty dang clear: I Timothy 2.5: For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

    Biblical cosmology

To summarize what I'm reading here... Mallon: Various passages throughout the Bible describe or otherwise assume a "three-tiered" cosmology. In the middle is the earth, otherwise described in terms of being flat, stationary, and resting upon massive pillars. More pillars (the mountains?) hold...

    Noah and the rainbow

I think of it in terms of bread and wine. Bread and wine existed before Jesus was crucified; but every time we eat the bread and drink the wine we memorialize the specific event. The rainbow existed beforehand, but God assigned a symbolic meaning to it when the flood's rainclouds departed: the...

    1 Maccabees

I'd like to ask thoughts on the book of I Maccabees. Please only weigh your opinion if you've read the book. For those who have read it... What are your thoughts on the literary and historical qualities of the book? Is there any reason why this book should not be considered divinely inspired...

    A Question for Trinitarians.

Lamb's Wife, your post doesn't answer my question. You specifically used 1 Corinthians 15.45 as evidence that Jesus is a disembodied spirit. But applying that standard of interpretation evenly upon that verse, one must likewise conclude that Adam was a disembodied soul. You then use 2...

    A Question for Trinitarians.

But... does Jesus being made a "living spirit" mean he is a disembodied spirit? It also says that Adam was made a "living soul", but we don't interpret that to mean he was a disembodied soul.

How do you think the Arians teaching effected the Oldest and Best Manuscripts.

Athanasius was as much a persecutor as he was persecuted. Athanasius was exiled several times... Arius was exiled several times... that doesn't make either of their views true or orthodox just because they were "persecuted". The Arians did not, as far as we know, intentionally alter the texts...

    Isaiah 9:6.

Might I offer another suggestion? The "son" of Isaiah 9.6-7 is not Jesus. Isaiah was providing a prophecy regarding the future king, Hezekiah, son of the present king Ahaz. None of the problem lies in who the title "Mighty God" is being applied to... what matters is how it is being applied. I...

Do you agree with Full Preterism?

Formerly having been a pre-trib dispie when I began studying Scripture, I "switched" over to "partial preterism" for several years. After that time, I became convinced that "full preterism" was the next logical step and eventually moved into that. After a year, I returned to "partial preterism"...
