  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Do the Orthodox say that the existence of God can be known by natural reason alone?

I think that's such a non answer Blonde. It's the opposite of reasoning. There's no way to test if the origin of everything around us is God or not. There would never be away of discerning that. The argument works equally well for the non believer in reasoning that God didn't make it.

Do the Orthodox say that the existence of God can be known by natural reason alone?

I'm interested in the question too. To me it goes a little too far. To me, there can be reasoning for faith in God. That there needs to be faith is crucial. In other words, IMO, Reasoning it out a person reaches a point where the faith leap becomes logical.

    Why is non-belief so terrible?

As Ryft has said, if you read it without prejudice, you may work out for yourself the evidence. That's how it usually works. You follow reasoning of those facts to arrive at your decision. I wasn't saying you had to believe first without it making sense to you. Just that evidence in the form...

    The gradual changes of conversion...

On the other side of the coin isn't it also true that we have to try to keep close to the edge to love God. We can become comfortable in our forgiveness to an extent that we fall into the sin of complacency. The doubt & questioning that God requires of us to love him fully.

    Why is non-belief so terrible?

It's all we have to work with, outside our personal experience. It covers pretty much the whole of human experience to minute detail, being relevant to every generation, and remaining true alongside increased human understanding and progress. Not enough.. hmmm ;) :) Unfortunately you don't get...

    Why is non-belief so terrible?

But you're dismissing this evidence! All Christians will tell you that the Bible is evidence of God. Surely that's suggestion?!? Hard factual proof of Gods existence for everyone to see would be contrary to Gods signature as defined in the Bible. For the Bible to irrefutably prove Gods...

    Where di god come from?

MrDave By definition evolution has no answers, It can't. It can only have scientific theories. So I think that's an unfair statement. Your put down of theories is also way too flippant. You dismiss science far too easily. IMHO. Giving unbalanced weight to your point, rendering it unstable. I...

    Why is non-belief so terrible?

None of us want to close our eyes, lose sight of our aims, but we do. You can't on the one hand say that you're open to the Christian God revealing himself to you and on the other hand dismiss the evidence that is the Bible on the other. The two stances are contradictory. Therefore I think I'm...

    Where di god come from?

No but it has finely scrutinised theories. Christianity has a 'spiritual' answer, but does that explain the physical truth? I don't think i've heard that said so definitely before. Is he not a 3rd part spirit? Spirit that can create physical matter? That's what we're saying isn't it?

    Why is non-belief so terrible?

Where did you get that from what I said to you?!? I didn't say that you were searching. You made the statement that, if I can summise, God hasn't presented himself to you. I was merely pointing out the error of that statement. And from the statement above, you definately don't want to know...

    Why is non-belief so terrible?

That's another question. In answer to your 2nd question: He didn't, so why worry about it? Searching/ trying to remove your obstructions to see what's already there - is the same thing. Good luck with that.

    Why is non-belief so terrible?

Hi Borel You're turning around the idea to suit yourself/ your resoning. It isn't God that isn't showing himself to you, it's you that is casting a blind eye in his direction.

    Are you a fundie?

I consider myself fundamentalist & can agree with the OP definition. I do think the Bible is potentially inerrant with humans being involved in the mix. Is that contradictory? I think it not so I stay fundie for now. Fundamentalism though is often equated to absolute adherence to pure literal...
