  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What people believe does not change the truth...

BFA, I follow the threads here from time to time (at least once a week), but I don't post much any more. I'm not the type to really want to get into apologetic debates. My "progressive" status turned out to only be a brief stopping place during my study... which led to me leaving entirely...

What people believe does not change the truth...

As I see it, the law can be "fulfilled" and no longer be binding on Christians today without calling it done away with! The law still exists, and we do still uphold the law... for the purpose in which it was created. The law was never intended as a means to salvation, but as a device to...

    You know you're a Seventh-day Adventist if . . . .

You've attended a vespers service that was a presentation on hydrotherapy.

    You know you're a Seventh-day Adventist if . . . .

You've encountered at least one person that was very concerned about Jesuit infiltrators in their local church.

    You know you're a Seventh-day Adventist if . . . .

Around here doing dishes was completely acceptable (even by hand), but to let a machine do the laundry was certainly not acceptable! Such inconsistent standards...

    You know you're a Seventh-day Adventist if . . . .

My wife and I did the watch thing when we were engaged in 2000-2001. We also opted not to do wedding rings (decided to err on the safe side back then). We've long since let go of the later restriction, but have never gotten around to actually buying them.

Discussion on the 28 fundamental beliefs....

Ooops... I missed that there was another page already... forget my "good place to start" comment... it's just another point to those already mentioned.

Discussion on the 28 fundamental beliefs....

Problem #1: Christ is of the order of Melchizedek... he is not a Levitical priest (Hebrews 7:11). So, what's up with all of the Levitical imagery being used with Christ's ministry today? This is by no means the only problem with this belief, but it seemed to be a good place to start.

Discussion on the 28 fundamental beliefs....

I notice that the belief says "abstain from the unclean foods identified in the Scriptures." This is another case where the wording almost sounds like a lawyer was involved... actually breaking the sentence apart: 1. There are indeed unclean foods identified in the Scriptures (whether or not...

Discussion on the 28 fundamental beliefs....

Contextually it seems to me that the tithe in Malachi is specifically a tithe of agriculture. The promise is rain (open up the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing) and bountiful crops. The storehouse contained foods, not money. It sounds to me like the tithe described at the end of...

Did Jesus work on the Sabbath?

Exclude me from your supposition. I understand that some people do see it the way you stated, but I do not. The way I see it, Jesus did not break the Sabbath. In fact, Jesus fulfilled every requirement of the law including Sabbath keeping. If we believe in Him and not our own...

Discussion on the 28 fundamental beliefs....

Problem phrase: "returning tithes" I do not believe that tithing, as a compulsory rule, is binding today. I can find no Biblical support for the idea. We are instead commanded to give from the heart and not from compulsion. That amount, and where it goes, is up to each individual.

Discussion on the 28 fundamental beliefs....

How true! I used to think that every other church believed that "Sabbath was changed to Sunday". I have only recently left Adventism and have begun the process of finding a new church to worship at (I'm a transitioning former). What a wake up call... over 90% of other Christians don't believe...

In that case then I have prejudged your response based on other similar conversations I have had recently. I apologize for doing so since it is clearly not proper. Feel free to express your view. I will read and consider it, but do realize that I do not intend to enter into a debate about it.

Discussion on the 28 fundamental beliefs....

Laodicean, We are not going to reach an agreement on this issue unless we are coming from the same perspective on the covenants. I've watched it over and over on this forum without participating, and was hesitant to even get involved because I know we'll never reach agreement on this...
