  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Thanks for the comments. The lutheran blog is rather cool. It helped me.

    obsessive thoughts and responsibility

Hello again, I wanted to ask you, what is the best way to handle obsessive thoughts and responsibility? I suffer from obsessive thoughts since 2006 and it's been bad sometimes. The problems range from light obsessions about numbers and letters words, to heavy religious obsessions about the...

I have awful doubts and a scare to read the bible

Some things do not quite add up. I have suffered much sometimes and so I learned the value of mercy and kindness. I do not care about so-called christians preaching fire and brimstone not knowing what they do. They are not real christians in my eyes. Sin is less a crime in Christ's eyes but a...

I have awful doubts and a scare to read the bible

I agree with a lot you have said here. But I try to see God's commandments as always having to do with love and grace, with virtue. The mosaic law contradicts genuine virtues like mercy, in a bad way, so it can't be my guide. But apart from that we have similar opinions. Except that I go by...

Finding the truth that unites OSAS with faith plus works Part One

I'm a universalistic christian and I go by another way of thinking about salvation. Our afterlife is always secure, and I think about it more like David and Solomo. The dead are with God and in Heaven and they are not seeds anymore but have grown into the true life. Life on earth is usually...

I have awful doubts and a scare to read the bible

@GREG, you may not have said it, but it's what transpires from your words. Just think about it. For example, the virtue of being a sharing person isn't formulated in the Law. You do not have to be nice. You can swear and blaspheme. Rape is not forbidden, in marriages anyway. Not even pedophily...

I have awful doubts and a scare to read the bible

@GREG, I am not sure why you would say that yielding to the Law is the same as yielding to God. Jesus himself said, and Paul confirms it, that the Law was from Moses and from the Jews, and does not fully originate with God. I believe Jesus followed a higher law, the law of love and freedom. If...

I have awful doubts and a scare to read the bible

Hi Greg, in many things you are right but there are things you have not thought about all too much. For example, the bible is clear in the New Testament that we should not go back to the Law of Moses nor draw too much inspiration from it. The Law has been done away with, that is a principle...

What are the real reasons people do not like "Hellfire and brimstone" preaching (messages)...?

I'm a universalist and do not believe in hell after life. I think it's about hell in this life, which it can often become without Jesus and love and mercy. It was a popular belief in Jesus' time and for two centuries before his advent, but not in David's time. No mention of it at all in the...

I have awful doubts and a scare to read the bible

I am feeling better. I have prayed much to the Holy Spirit and tried to remember him often. He has this light female presence that I notice, and I feel like He or She is always kind and knows my struggles and that's all normal to him and he doesn't mind to work on me. I feel warm and like I am...

I have awful doubts and a scare to read the bible

But my dad was not a murderer like Paul was and like Jesus' killers were. But God forgave them in Christ even when they did not believe in Jesus. Justice doesn't mean that God HAS to punish. That is the human thirst for revenge, but God has higher thoughts. Moreover, after death we have quitted...

Did I commit the unpardonable sin?

No, you have not. The Holy Spirit is with us for good. Blasphemous thoughts only change the way we feel until we are skewed such that we don't think we have been forgiven. But Jesus said everything is forgiven. The words about blasphemy being unpardonable do not refer to bad words but instead to...

I have awful doubts and a scare to read the bible

I'm not sure how you can keep this up. Love means we not just think of ourselves. But some think, God loves them and not the others. I can't do this. Whenever I think God is loving me, I also think God loves my neighbor too. Same for the cross. As a christian I am a neighbor to atheists...

I have awful doubts and a scare to read the bible

You're mad, Aiki. You're not a man of God who is love. You're just some judge. I need help and not your terror visions. You have no idea about mercy and grace. Jesus Christ died so that we would be forgiven. My dad's silly unbelief doesn't deny the cross, it works without his cooperation. Do you...

I have awful doubts and a scare to read the bible

I'm not sure you are correct, Aiki. When Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross, he said, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they are doing". This is for everyone, including Jesus' killers. When God could forgive them, he can forgive my dad his unbelief. We all go to God's judgment...
