  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Protestant Understanding of the Church Fathers

My dad is (an old school) LCMS. When he grew up, they didn't have dancing in LCMS schools. Your sweeping generalizations are not only coming out of left-field, but the ad hominen attacks against my country are completely unacceptable. I already stated that both Lutheranism and Episcopalianism...

Protestant Understanding of the Church Fathers

As someone well-versed in comparative religion, it is very much representative of Protestant theology. You could say, "But what about the Lutherans and Episcopalians?" Both denominations have taken a very "Protestant" turn in recent centuries. Luther and his early disciples regularly cited...

Seminary a necessity to become a priest?

Not quite. You only have to pay for the first year out of pocket. After that, if you're becoming a priest, you'll receive substantial financial assistance from various organizations. Having said that, a current problem in Orthodox seminaries is that those seminarians end up changing their...

    Liberal Orthodox Christians?

DING, DING, DING, DING! That's exactly what Orthodoxy is about. It's about the (and I hesitate to use this term) relationship between Man, God, and the Community (Saints, fellow Christians, world, etc). Although, having said that, I'll disagree with you to an extent about Protestants...

    Orthodoxy is Roman Catholic

Everyone reading this would agree that Orthodoxy is Catholic, as it is the Universal faith. So, I won't bother explaining that issue. But what about the question: Is Orthodoxy Roman? Why yes, yes, it is. After the Western Empire fell and the barbarians attempted to continue Roman law and...

Any Denominations that believe Jesus was not god, but was sent by god?

That's indeed what the Church Fathers initially thought of Islam when it first arrived on the scene because of its similarities of Eastern Christianity.

    Christians Persecuting Christians

You apparently never met Evangelicals. I mean this in the nicest way possible, but many Protestants are darn near bred to despise other Christians that don't adhere to sacrosanct "Solas". But, when they call the Church heretical, I laugh. Because I know the Faith that Established the Universe...

    Witnessing to people, particularly atheists

“Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.” -St. Francis of Assisi. That's it in a nutshell. No one likes being "preached" to, unless they've always expressed interest. That's generally how I witness to Protestants. I could tell them how the basic tenants of their faith is...

    Protestants Dominating Christian Fiction

Very true. You're absolutely right. Very sound advice. It's important that any Orthodox fiction should be 'American' in nature. It shouldn't feature Greeks, Russians or Arabs. The key should be to appeal to the West without diluting the message.

    Liberal Orthodox Christians?

It can best be summarized like this: Left-Leaning: High immigrant count, urban location Right-Leaving: High convert count, suburban/rural location There are two Orthodox churches here in Madison (excluding the Coptic one). The Greek church is about 70% first, second or third generation Greek...

    Liberal Orthodox Christians?

You'll find left-leaning Orthodox in churches in major metropolitan areas, especially those with first or second generations immigrants in them. Most celebrities who are also Orthodox (like Tom Hanks and Phil Angelides as well as the Orthodox Peace Fellowship) are left-leaning as well. The...

    Turning to the Dark Side

I agree. But, most modern games can be classified as "console ports" considering you really don't need to use more than 10 or so buttons (except for MMOs and RTSs). The key is getting used to the gamepad. Worse case scenario, I plug in my keyboard and mouse. ;)

    Lutheran Church Missouri Synod

Can I get a "Praise Luther!"? As I tell people, I'm half-Lutheran myself. My old man is LCMS. I attended an LCMS university. I've even attended Lutheran conferences (my blond hair and blue eyes makes me fit in very well). I'm well-versed in Lutheran theology. There are differences in LCMS...
