  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Please help. I keep getting asked this question and it's making be wonder

But I thought that it was taken as a given that the gospels were written by different people and not by God?

Please help. I keep getting asked this question and it's making be wonder

"If they aren't, either we misunderstood or the bible is not the Word of God." Are you saying that the Bible isn't the word of god?

Please help. I keep getting asked this question and it's making be wonder

I'm sorry but I keep thinking about this and I've come back to thinking that the Ark story just doesn't seem possible to be literal. "The Lord saw that the wickedness of humankind was great in the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually. And...

That's brilliant! Sock it to the evolution believers. Creationism rules. God Bless.

Please help. I keep getting asked this question and it's making be wonder

That's great. Thanks razzelflabben. I hope you don't mind if I switch things slightly, then. From the other thread, I got to reading about the parrallels between Horus and Jesus. Horus was an Egyptian god whose story was told in the centuries before and during Jesus' time and the writing of the...

Please help. I keep getting asked this question and it's making be wonder

Thanks Razzelflaben. That's really helpful. I'm still a bit confused though as so many seem to think the Noah and his ark story is an historical event and yet other believers, like me (I think), look at the history of the time and see that no such flood ever happened and realise that there is...

Please help. I keep getting asked this question and it's making be wonder

Can you help with explaining what these "clues" are? I thought that the Noah story was a parable but the chaplains tell us that it is a literal, historical event. As such, I don't think I am reading the clues well. Thank you.

Please help. I keep getting asked this question and it's making be wonder

I've read the whole Bible. That's why I know so much about it and I know what Jesus tells us to do. I did think it was supposed to be metaphorical in part but as the chaplains have said, the Noah story is a true historical story and the Bible is a literal book of fact. I am now happy to believe...

Please help. I keep getting asked this question and it's making be wonder

Are we saying that the Bible is all to be taken literally? I am happy to do this if this is God's will but it does lead to some difficult decisions. For example, Jesus tells us to cut out our eye if it causes us to stumble in our way to the Lord, for it is better to enter the Kingdom of Heaven...

Christianity A Copy of Egyptian Theology?

If you go to the religious tolerance website and search for Horus and Jesus, there is a good, fair appraisal there. There are lots of parallels between Jesus and Horus but it doesn't necessarily follow that Jesus didn't actually exist. There are plenty of historical documents written at the...

Please help. I keep getting asked this question and it's making be wonder

I care because I like to be able to discuss things with people. They always say my faith is illogical and I like to prove them wrong.

Please help. I keep getting asked this question and it's making be wonder

I think my first post explains why I started the thread. I got asked a question I couldn't answer. It seems that we all are guided to different answers which satisfy ourselves. That is fine by me but I know it won't wash with the non-believers.

Please help. I keep getting asked this question and it's making be wonder

We all seem to think different things. It's so hard to know which bits are literal and which bits are metaphorical. Thanks for all your responses though, guys. God Bless.

Please help. I keep getting asked this question and it's making be wonder

That's very helpful. Thanks everyone. I sincerely doubt I can use it in an argument though as these people rely on logic and reason over faith so the discussion with them is futile when we look at texts so differently to the way they do. I think when we have some Christians still trying to...

I thought some of it was history and some of it was metaphorical?
