  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    God is NOT in control

It bothers me a great deal. One of the most extreme examples was in 2011 after this area had been smashed by tornadoes and many people were killed. Several weeks later, one radio host said he believed in the sovereignty of God. He said every one of those tornadoes moved exactly where God...

    Some interesting choices.

Is Def Leppard a Christian Band?

Def Leppard. Maybe a little underrated. A band that never seemed to go beyond its 80s image. I suppose tame by today's standards, though, as far at that goes. Overall, however, there is a lot of other stuff I'd rather be listening to. Certainly, someone 8 or 9 probably shouldn't be...

Any Elder Out There - Mob Mentality - Help

I don't know if I have any answers; this isn't the type of thing I'd normally be very familiar with. But in describing the situation it might be helpful if you would be more specific. At first, I thought you meant people speaking another language was referring to people speaking in tongues...

Is Def Leppard a Christian Band?

I'm referring primarily to the "Pour Some Sugar On Me" video which had one part in it which was sometimes censored. I wouldn't particularly recommend it for edification.

Where to draw the line with music?

    Excellent post.

    Should Christians Read Harry Potter?

I also consider it sci-fi/fantasy and probably much milder than much of the stuff that's out there.

    What about harlan Ellison???

He did a fantastic job writing the "City On the Edge of Forever" for the original Star Trek. Probably my favorite episode.

Is Def Leppard a Christian Band?

I don't think there is anything about DL that would set them apart from any other 80s band. Pour Some Sugar On Me might be considered somewhat objectionable, but that's about it. If I wanted to listen to them, there is no real reason not to.

Who's your favorite and least favorite Star Trek captain, and why?

Probably Kirk was my favorite, but I've liked all of them.

    What's up with the South?

@NightHawkeye And that's it? That's the South? Mississippi represents the entire South? I live in a state right next to Mississippi, in a multiracial family, in fact. I never see a Confederate flag anywhere. You're making the same error that W.J. Cash made when he took one small area...

    What's up with the South?

The South is a big place. Make too many generalizations about it and you can commit the grave error that W.J. Cash made in his severely flawed book "The Mind of the South."

    What's up with the South?

And many of them are not.
