  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Should Christians aspire to the "image and desires" of a superficial society

I don't think any of those things are bad so long as they don't become an unhealthy obsession. Afterall, even from an entirely secular point of view all those things are temporary and will eventually be lost so it might be a mistake to give them too high a priority in your life. I'm reading a...

    God, not convinced.

You sound very like me! I come from a scientific and agnostic background and no amount of bible quoting etc would have convinced me of a Creator God. I too got very into Buddhism and meditation and for a while thought it held the ultimate truth but I now believe not only in God as the creator of...

    Evidence to strengthen faith?

Well I haven't had any spectacular "spiritual experiences" like some people have, i.e dreams or similar, but I do tend to see signs of God everywhere now i.e when I'm out in nature or look up at the stars I just think "I can't believe I used to think this just popped up randomly out of nowhere"...

    Evidence to strengthen faith?

Yeah I think you definitely have a point there. I'm a very logical minded person so apologetics is probably the only route I ever could have come by but initially I think my conversion was purely intellectual. Basically I'd read all the books and had concluded that the Bible, or at least the...

    Weird life

I can kind of relate. Particularly the anxiety, made worse by the pandemic, and the thought of how much life is potentially ahead of me where I have to keep myself afloat. I'm lucky that I don't have any immediate financial worries but I have just left a permanent job due to not being able to...

    Evidence to strengthen faith?

There are loads of great Christian apologists out there who talk about the hard evidence for a belief in Christ. My favourites though are Lee Strobel, Nabeel Qureshi, William Lane Craig and Gary Habermas. All have written books and all have videos on YouTube. It was reading Lee Strobel's book "A...

How are we to see ourselves?

I tend to think of all people, including myself, as an awkward mix of good and bad. Some have more bad or good in them than others but no-one is all good or all bad and on balance even the "best" of us have done plenty wrong in our lives. I don't think we should bash ourselves too much for this...

I don't think we can choose what to believe

Sadly I think a lot of people do choose what to believe, based on looking into several religions and just picking one that "suits" them. I did this when I was younger and initially settled on Buddhism. I may be wrong but I get the impression most people don't look into what evidence exists to...

how we know that christianity is the truth? Questions and doubts that really discourage me.

I used to feel exactly the same as you. I was very reluctant to accept the Bible as truth as as far as I could tell there was no actual evidence for it and accepting the word of the Bible purely on faith was just not good enough for me. But then I read "A Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel, who I...

New christian still working things out

Thank you so much all for such a warm welcome! I'll definitely look up William Lane Craig- thanks for the tip @Cormack. My current faves to watch on YouTube are Lee Strobel and Nabeel Qureshi :)

New christian still working things out

Hi, I'm new to the faith. I recently read a couple of apologetics books and realized that there was far more to Christianity than the "fairy tale" that I used to think it was. If my Christian school had taught apologetics then I may have believed a long time ago! Anyway I found it impossible to...
