  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Friend killed by drunk driver

I found out my friend was killed by a drunk driver while cycling. He was top of his class and had just moved to the US to start a career after graduation. I am afraid for him. I invited him to a church group before but he was not a believer. A witness says he was conscious for a bit before...

    recommended book for new Christian

thanks for sharing. I was also lukewarm - becoming a Christian requires a radical shift in world view, which takes time and help. Atleast it did for me! I read that only 4% of people in US have a Biblical world view, though obviously far more claim to be Christian. I highly recommend The...

so if your friend regularly prioritized homework, TV, etc over taking part in the church community, you wouldn't be concerned? Instead you would be suspicious of anyone that was concerned? Really??

hey Jake, My church has a reading group that is working through Desiring God. I assumed it was quite heavy but will borrow a copy when they finish and see for myself. My copy of Knowing God should arrive soon. Found: God's Will looks promising - I will check it out. Spurgeon wrote so many...

    Mennonites in Belize

I haven't read anything about them yet, unless you count wikipedia. I am primarily interested in their values and how their communities run. Thanks for the Peter Hoover reference. Though the Tasmanian group seem a lot more worldly then the Belizians.

    Mennonites in Belize

thanks DM. Yeah I was pretty sure they wouldn't be contactable by email! Do you know of any books about this community? - not necessarily the ones in Belize if others are similar. I remember a flood cut off a main Mennonite village and a few days later it was impossible to buy eggs and other...

    Catholic position on Protestants

I interpreted that post as meaning those ignorant about Christ would likely be forgiven, but it seems they did not intend that.
