  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Thanks to Simchat_Torah

Thanks for the post about Kabbalah. As I mentioned I printed it out and gave to a lady who was considering adapting the practice of Kabbalah and as a result recognized that she was being introduced to the modern version and has reconsidered.

    Torah portions

Perhaps you are thinking of the Hassidic spinning dance at Simhat Torah (that's as humurous as I get). I was thinking of a page of the Torah scroll.

    Torah portions

Thanks, debi b. Another point I have had a hard time finding information about is how they determined what was a portion. Could the portions have been determined by the size of the scrolls? I'll check out the site you reference, thanks again.

    Torah portions

I was at our local temple a few weeks with a class discussing the week's parashat. I asked a question about the more ancient 3 year cycle to get a better understanding of the practices at the time of Jesus. The instructor said the Torah was not read in portions until much later. I think I...

    I Chronicles 12:32/33

The testament of Issachar is interesting, I have some material from this organization, but the translation posted by Zayit is exactly what I am after. I have a Tanak in Hebrew and I do not see the words that would result in this translation but my knowledge of Hebrew is not what I would like...

    I Chronicles 12:32/33

This verse is about the sons of yisshacHar who have knowledge of the times. Does the Hebrew in the verse say anything about the knowledge of letters and/or numbers as the source of this knowledge? My Hebrew is not good enough to translate. Thank you.

    Kabbalah

For several years the book of the translations of the Gnostic writings has gathered dust on my book shelf. The recent publication of the DaVinci Code caused me retrieve the book of writings setting on the shelf. By the way I do think the Lord is guiding me through this though it is unusual...

    Kabbalah

Thanks again for the response, male and female personages is not the problem. A female deity is, not that God has to be Arnold S. rather the religions with strong feminine aspects. Thanks, Hix, that may be the solution to my hangup, let me mull it over. Sorry to be so short.

    Kabbalah

Shalom, haber. I will reply later but wanted to express my appreciation for your reply. There was a lady I met the other day who was very interested in Kabbalah and wanted to find someplace in this city to study, she has no Jewish background. At that time I told her she had a really big...

    Kabbalah

I have felt somewhat enticed by Kabbalah at times in the past. So I printed the post giving an overview. It was very interesting but there are a couple of points that haunt me. I have not noticed these before in the books a periodicals I have read. So I was hoping Simchat-Torah could elaborate...

    Family History

Shalom. It’s been a while and I maybe infrequent still, but I wanted to share something I learned about my family history last September that is pertinent to this forum. I went to Witchita, KS to attend the funeral of an aunt. She was at a church youth group function and was doing some rather...

News "they" don't want you to have.

Didymus, the dead are dead but the living are alive. These types of expressions throw gasoline on the fire of those who are envious and have no real reason for their wrath. If an archaeologist were to disturb the grave it would not be the same expression, there is at least some good intent. If...

    Translation help, please, Ruhama

The printing technique on the prayer shawl has just a slight extension to the right on the foot of the nun’s but since there are bet’s to compare to I now see my mistake. Concerning B’Mitz vo-tav: after the tsadi is vav-tav-yod-vav the vowel signs under the tav is a kamatz (ah) so should the...
