  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Explaining the Trinity

Who is "is the reflection of God's glory and the exact likeness of his being", Christ or the Trinity? Who is "the image of the invisible God", Christ or the Trinity? Who is the one who we worship as the very incarnation of God, Christ or the Trinity? Who is the one "who loved us and gave his...

    Explaining the Trinity

What I said was that the term originates in Aristotle and was applied centuries later, in this case, to Christ, making him what you call "the hypostatic union". You're only making my point that the Trinity originates in greek philosophy. I'd love to hear what you think is heretical about...

    Explaining the Trinity

Excuse me but you need to read the text I'm referring to again. "... This illumination of the nous is not just knowledge of the archetypes of beings,..." I shouldn't have to explain this, but it is in fact just "that" -"knowledge of the archetypes of beings" plus whatever else he adds. Jesus...

    Explaining the Trinity

Omigod, I'm sorry, but this is totally woo woo! It's "not JUST knowledge of the archetype of beings"? How more neo-platonic (not to mention gnostic) could that statement be! And notice that Jesus has nothing to do with it!! Well I guess if it's "hesychasm" and not philosophy then the Triune God...

    Explaining the Trinity

Jesus teaches that we are saved by faith. Philosophy teaches that we are saved by intellect, or "gnosis" as you put it. The choice is very clear. The truth of God does not come from "Platonic, Neo-Platonic, Neo-Pythagorean, Aristotelian, and Stoic philosophy among other sources" and "gaining...

    Explaining the Trinity

It is a conclusion drawn from greek philosophy by "church fathers" centuries after the Bible was written, as has been clearly established in this thread by contributors other than me. I could just as easily argue that creating confusion by making God into three persons is impious. Jesus makes it...

    Explaining the Trinity

The NT is full of chapter after chapter explaining clearly Christ as the personhood, the incarnation, what the KJV calls "the express image of his person" -where do you find the trinity explained? Such a God confuses everyone, which is why it should be rejected. Jesus says "I praise You...

    Explaining the Trinity

I did originally but I decided that going into the influence of people like Plotinus on Augustine and the "church fathers" was more detail than most people are interested in hearing. The God they present is utterly unconcerned with and uninvolved in human history, which completely contradicts...

    Explaining the Trinity

Those philiosophies conjure up all kinds of “bad thoughts” because they contain all kinds of rotten theology –their concept of God in every way contradicts the God of the Bible, with the possible exception of being vaguely monotheist. Who else was Paul referring to when he...

    Explaining the Trinity

It's so interesting that people defend the Trinity by saying it's a mystery while giving no scriptural proof of it's existence in the first place -that's the real mystery to me. Yekcidmij's post makes it very clear that the Trinity doctrine originates in third century neo-platonic philosophy...

    Explaining the Trinity

Of course I read the entire thread -the closest anyone came to anything near a proof text was Abraham seeing "three men". Yet the text makes it clear that only one of those persons was God, the one who Abraham addresses as God and prays to for mercy for the sake of Lot. Where is there anything...

    Explaining the Trinity

Where on earth does the Bible teach that God is three persons? What "personhood" does God have outside of Christ? The use of "let us make man in our image" In Genesis says nothing whatsoever about God being three persons -if it did Jews would be trinitarians. It just reflects the Hebrew use of...
