  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are some good resoruces for better understanding The Bible?

The book will promote a greater understanding between various religious beliefs. I am sure you have all felt misunderstood or misrepresented at some point, and I wish to explore this shared experience. I will not be promoting, defending or criticizing any view or belief, merely clarifying what...

What are some good resoruces for better understanding The Bible?

I appreciate your perspective Joshua260. I think I will continue as I have been, but it is very likely I will do two readings. After my first reading I will be looking at commentaries to give me additional perspective, then I will begin my second reading. I will try to keep what you have said...

What are some good resoruces for better understanding The Bible?

I've added NKJV, but my primary reading is NASB, then referencing NIV and NKJV if I am confused by the language in NASB. If you have a suggestion, I am open to it. I will likely be tweaking my process as I go. I'm already considering tossing the NIV, it isn't clarifying the language of the...

What do you think Ham did?

My first introduction into the complexity of The Bible and potential translations comes in the form of the Curse of Ham. I see that there are many interpretations of what exactly Ham did. What do you think Ham did?

What are some good resoruces for better understanding The Bible?

It didn't take me long to change my mind. After reading Genesis 1, I'm cutting the Message Bible. I also don't see myself referencing the Skeptic's Annotated Bible very often, as I don't really need to be told what the critical view is.

What are some good resoruces for better understanding The Bible?

Thanks for the suggestion TheyCallMeDavid, it is Home - Cross Examined - Christian Apologetics | Frank Turek (no hyphen). It doesn't look like he'll be in my area anytime soon. I also don't have cable so cannot watch his television show, but I will check out the resources he supplies on his...

What are some good resoruces for better understanding The Bible?

I am looking for a large variety of perspectives, so I will likely involve some research you might find distasteful or incorrect, but I will keep a keen eye out for those who I think are being dishonest or disingenuous. I will look into Saint Augistine and Saint Thomas Aquinas. I can promise...

Just noticed the typo in my thread title. Looks like I need an editor :) Thank you for the suggestions ebia, I will look into them. I will be reading 4 Bibles concurrently from start to finish, but I will take special interest in the books you suggest Joshua. I've gotten many suggestions to...
