  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How do you get rid of the fear of being in a relationship

Remember Scripture that says who Christ is -- because He is our Rock, and the only relationship that can ground us. Tell verses like this to yourself: "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." "Now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls." (Psalm 23:1, 1 Peter 2:25)...

I got depression cause of end of time.

Better to ignore intrusive thoughts and agree with God's Word. If you're a Christian, you can't and don't agree with thoughts that are against God's Word. John Bunyan had a lot of history with intrusive thoughts. He overcame them as his faith grew in God's Word and in Christ as the Rock of...

I got depression cause of end of time.

Hi, I advise you to go to the Bible and take a stand on what is written there. On who God the Father is (Psalm 103 and many other places), on who Christ is (1 Timothy 1:17, the Gospel of John 6:35, and many other places), how He saves us (the Gospel of John 3:14-16, 6:37, the Gospel of Matthew...

    Prayer Request

Psalm 73:26 - My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. This is a good verse to remember and pray for all kinds of weakness and not working well of the flesh and heart - it puts its failures in perspective. The weakness and unreliableness of the...

what line of work are you in?

I work in software development. That sounds fun. I can't say anyone has offered to pay me for all the chess I play. Although now that I think of it...there was a semester where I worked overnights in the computer lab, to help students who came in to use the computers...no one ever came in so...

What has God been teaching you recently?

Don't get tempted into losing peace and joy in the Lord or getting into an unloving attitude (John 15:4). Trust, pray, thank God with every problem (Philippians 4:6). "Our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed" (Romans 13:11).

The Ravi Zacharias scandal and....his books on my shelves.

Very true and a very important difference. Another thing, regarding the question of whether what someone wrote is still true -- it can be hard to discern subtle errors in teaching, but looking at someone's fruit is one way of seeing them. Not only subtle errors but are they saying what Christ...

    I want to believe but...

It's not disregarding common sense, it's just not having the common sense of an atheist. I can understand how an atheist would disbelieve miracles in the Bible. But if you know that God does exist, it's reasonable and expected that he can do things beyond our own abilities. Hebrews 11:3 - By...

    Concerning God and rash promises

Martin Luther and his mentor Staupitz both struggled with making vows and finding themselves powerless to keep them. Eventually they both had to learn to trust in Christ's mercy despite their inability. God didn't cast them off because they had failed to keep the vows that they made. On the...

    I want to believe but...

To the original question, First, a lot of this depends on believing that God is sovereign. If God doesn't exist or isn't sovereign, then some things, including Jesus' resurrection, might be really hard to believe. But since He is sovereign He is able to perform things that we can't do or...

    Blasphemous evil thoughts

It's important to remember that you're not responsible for the evil thoughts and you don't need to worry about them as long as, like you said, you disagree with them. You're responsible to keep looking to Christ and following Him. Deuteronomy 3:22 says, "Do not fear them, for it is the Lord...
