  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How our possible simulation could work

I asked you whether you understood how GANs work including in my previous post's video. Yes or no? Hopefully you are capable of answering that question - so that I can tailor my argument to your response. You recommended that I "write a short executive summary of your thesis and we can proceed...

How our possible simulation could work

What about post #106 when I talked about GANs? If you can't understand that then here is a short video about it: Are you able to understand that? Note it is the explanation for why the simulation would be indistinguishable from reality. If it is a simulation like the Roy game then the player...

How our possible simulation could work

I think it is the ultimate science fiction - basically every kind of magic and science fiction - e.g. you could tell the generative AI game you want to become Marty McFly and use the time machine to do whatever you want. Or do anything related to the Bible e.g. this is an interactive story where...

How our possible simulation could work

The reality like a Roy game and a simulation compatible with the Bible are very different. The Roy game involves one consciousness - the Bible talks about many. I mean it wouldn't make as much sense to have heaven and hell and have the people being incapable of experiencing genuine pleasure and...

How our possible simulation could work

Yes and I also talk about "personal growth" which is similar to education. Well in Alan Watts' dream scenario he begins with god-like levels of entertainment then the player ends up getting bored, etc. Though if they're living a life like the Roy game they're not currently aware that they had...

How our possible simulation could work

I think most of the Bible isn't historical. I think the simulation explanation for basically everything in the Bible is better than just having faith. I think the simulation explanation is impressive - normally a theory would only explain some parts of the Bible - unless the explanation is to...

How our possible simulation could work

But simulations pretty much explain every aspect of the reality that the Bible talks about including souls, etc. Simulations can do so much more than just simulate our world - so rather than simulating just pure physics it can simulate magical type things too. That's like having a computer...

How our possible simulation could work

So I mentioned these two scenarios: The Roy game: (warning: contains swearing) Alan Watts' dream thought experiment: https://web.archive.org/web/20220131000651/https://alanwatts.org/1-2-3-mythology-of-hinduism-pt-1/ In the second scenario you have god-like abilities but it seems like you're...

How our possible simulation could work

Yes I think so though some people would call it solipsism. That is what the Roy game and Alan Watts' dream thought experiment involve. They can also be called "philosophical zombies". Yes the cost is a key part of this, so that billions of people can afford those set top boxes that run games...

    Additions to the Bible?

Something else about the original (or shorter) ending of Mark: It says "they saw" a young man, not that "it looked like" a young man. And it doesn't say the white robe was glowing. But in the other gospels, which were written later, it says they saw an angel and in Luke 24:23 "they had seen a...

How our possible simulation could work

@Ophiolite Some thoughts about how the output of a generative AI would become indistinguishable from reality - It could use a "Generative adversarial network": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generative_adversarial_network I think that basically involves an AI trying to distinguish between what...

How our possible simulation could work

BTW I think my arguments are the best ones that exist for being in a simulation (even if I didn't communicate them very well). If you disagree then please show arguments that are better than mine. But progress has been exponential... e.g. on machine costing about $500 there can be 100+ people...

How our possible simulation could work

BTW I think it is a good thing that people are pretty critical of my ideas... in December 2005 I was posting some stuff and on that particular messageboard people weren't too critical of my particular "arguments"... (perhaps because they could tell I was mentally ill and irrational) Perhaps...

How our possible simulation could work

BTW it looks like Epic's early success was from knowing what players wanted in terms of good gameplay. Somehow in 1991 ZZT was successful enough for Tim Sweeney to create games with higher budgets (he sold about 5000 copies) Then Unreal from 1998 sold about 1.5 million copies, etc.

How our possible simulation could work

Actually I studied some AI subjects at university in the late 1990s/2000 - my point is that I was interested in AI before it was popular. I thought showing the best generative AI had to offer would be more persuasive. Current generative AI is very primitive compared to what I think would happen...
