  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Concerns

Perhaps your problem is using anachronisms and identifying with them, such as "progressive" and "conservative". If Orthodoxy agrees with "american conservatism" it's by sheer chance only. I think we should take the teachings with good heart, regardless of what political minions who do not care...

    "They will answer to God"

The quote is still not about repaying good works in the legal sense. It's about letting those who Sin experience what they chose. Sin carries its own punishment. If we had anything to gain from working harder, then how is it Agape? Read the parable of the workers and the vineyard again. Had...

    "They will answer to God"

2Ti 4:16 would make no sense in your explanation, since the repented are not being repaid "as well" like a cope. They have their bad ones forgiven.

    Why God allows evil

It would be the worst possible of worlds, Man would destroy utopia as soon as he gets the chance. Utopia is not only impossible, it is undesirable. Have you ever heard of a certain disease? It's a disease that makes it unable for someone to feel pain, and their lives usually don't last past 30...

What exactly did Jesus Save us from?....

From Justice. He gave us Mercy, which is much harder to accept and digest.

    Do you attend traditional church?

No, I do not go to a traditional church. I go to a church. There's a reason why we need a name for bald people, but we needn't one for people with hair. Once you call where you go as anything but the church, it means you're assuming it is not and should not be the norm.

Why do so many Christians not believe Jesus's plain words

Symbol, in the understanding of everyone from the time (including the Apostles) that the Orthodox Church kept, is not opposed to substantial. It is the very expression of a substance. The peasants couldn't verbalized it, but the default mode of thinking of everyone until the Enlightenment (and...

    John 3:16 is OSAS

Is it effortless to accept the Mercy of God? Humanity is part of the created Cosmos just as everything else.

Is there a Saint I can ask prayers for my Finals?

No llores por mí, Argentina. Read Job 33:23, Tobit 12:15, Revelations 8:3-4.

    Killing in Self-Defense

Maybe, though certainly less than believing actions are "damnable". This is the despair of Judas. Happy Pascha, read the Paschal homily of St. John Chrysostom and his "On the Betrayal of Judas".

    The conflict of two

Hello, I am an Catechumen and I'd like your help understanding an infopiece by Pope Shenouda III called 'The Nature of Christ'. Particularly page 21: "If there was not unity between the Will of the Divine nature of Christ and His human nature, this would have resulted in internal conflict."...

Is Orthodoxy an Exclusivist or Inclusivist religion?

Following academic terminology is a great way to get into heresy. There are many suppositions in our terminology we usually skim over. It's better to use Orthodox terminology and think of it as a Hospital. St Maximus says about those who don't accept the Revelation of the Church: "Whoever reads...

    Two energies in one actor

Thank you for your answers, I feel progress. I see how the two original phrases of the opening post are not contradictory. Obviously now this has raised new questions, but such is life. I'll do some studying by myself about the Nous and if/when I get frustrated enough, I'll come back to pester...

    Two energies in one actor

If the rest of Creation can not make distinctions of Divine and human energies, why can or should our Theology? What characteristic does your mind possess that makes it different from the rest of Creation that Christ's energies can be distinct through it?

    Two energies in one actor

Pardon my absurd analogy, but if Christ instead of standing on His two feet and spoken to Lazarus had layed down and shouted "Mickey Mouse" would Lazarus had been risen all the same since human nature did not partake in Lazarus' resurrection? I'm not trying to just play word games, but if Christ...
