How is it a lie? You said that they knew I used a VPN, which means that they know how they work. I’m truthful when filling out forms for the government, so they know where I live. It’s only a lie if I am trying to deceive. Which I’m not.

Would they not already have my address?

Can you give an example of a legit company that would check my IP address?

His choice. That’s the thing about rights. You have them, but you don’t have to use them. They don’t become obsolete if you choose not to, though.
