  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you have to believe/follow all of the old testament and new testament to be a Christian?

You need to follow Jesus and His teachings. We read the Bible so we can follow Jesus. Everything ultimately leads to Him. Therefore, if we disregard His teachings, then we should truly ask ourselves whether we are following Him, or simply using Him to excuse our own misguided desires. Jesus...

I was hungry and you fed me

True faith requires repentance of sin. How is one forgiven and receive repentance for a sin unless he first admits that his belief/action is wrong? Is not the fruit of faith witnessed through transformation?... No matter how small that transformation might be? We are constantly in a state of...

I was hungry and you fed me

There seems to be homeless everywhere near where I live. It wouldn't take much to find them. You say that we can fund "those who take an interest in what they are doing..." Are you saying that you have no interest?

I was hungry and you fed me

I know a lot of people who would agree that our attitude should be one that desires to help those in need, feed the hungry, etc., but when you hear them speak about the homeless, or about those on welfare, those in jail, enemies, etc., it's the exact opposite from what Jesus taught. It's like...

    Religious Right's Rationalization of Trump

I personally don't believe that many in the "Christian Right" are truly Christian. It's more of a civil religion than an actual act of following Jesus. If Jesus was their focus, they would do the things that He taught instead of trying to look to a secular government to solve things that Jesus...

What Spirit is behind the redistribution of wealth?

That's because we do not live as Christ intended the Church to live. We, as the saying goes, want our cake and eat it, too... In this world AND of this world. We are called to live as a Christian community, meaning... we are called to take care of one another and see that all needs are met...

    Jesus and nonviolence

If you reread the passage in Matthew 5 in context you will understand exactly why Jesus begins his sermon by stating that the law is the law, and it does not go away. He says this because he is telling us that HE is the law now, so what HE says goes. "“Do not think that I have come to abolish...

    Jesus and nonviolence

Actually, yeah... we're not supposed to do that either. 1 Corinthians 6:1-8... "If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people? Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are...

Why should Christians care about politics?

Of course I'd rather that the church be able to freely evangelize, but that wasn't my point. My point is that the church will survive no matter what, because it's The Church. In America, we have this freedom, so one has to wonder why people are leaving the faith instead of staying...

Is income inequality good or bad ?

As Christians, we do not live the way in which Christ intended us to live. The early church lived as a community and shared all things in common, as where there was need. They did this NOT because they were persecuted (as so many like to say), but because it followed Jesus' teachings. It was...

    Jesus and nonviolence

I understand that my argument doesn't make sense to you. If I wasn't Christian, it wouldn't make sense to me either. I noticed that you are not of the Christian faith. The only thing I can say that might make sense to you is that none of this makes any sense. It's counter intuitive and goes...

    Jesus and nonviolence

But I'm not talking about the society at large. I'm talking about Christians and what WE should be doing. They are separate... or at least they should be.

    Jesus and nonviolence

Huh? Not sure what you mean. The early church practiced pacifism and was slaughtered right and left. Especially by the Romans. All of Jesus' disciples were killed. Yet, the church survived because of faith.

    Jesus and nonviolence

Hmm... Did Jesus and His disciples not have the luxury of holding these views? They had these views yet they lived in a society worse than ours.

Why should Christians care about politics?

Technically, it's against the law to be Christian in China, yet Christianity is growing much faster in China than it is in the U.S. We should never fear what worldly governments will do. We need to have a faith strong enough to withstand the storms and trials, and trust that God will always...
