  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The god who (once again) wasn't there: Virginia Tech

This is not a non sequitor (note the spelling). Simply because God has the power does not mean that He must use it.

The god who (once again) wasn't there: Virginia Tech

My point is that just because God has the power to stop it does not mean that He will. That does not make Him less loving. God gave men free will. The post just quoted is quite valid. A man pulled the trigger, not God. God does not stop all of the bad things from happening. It is part of...

The god who (once again) wasn't there: Virginia Tech

As an omnipotent Father, Father knows best; not His inferior, limited, finite children. He even promises us hardship and suffering in His Word. We should not love Him simply when He is "nice" to us, or does things the way we think they should be done, we should love Him becase He is the...

The god who (once again) wasn't there: Virginia Tech

I find this statement incredibly arrogant. I mean, a finite, limited being saying what an infinite, unlimited being would do. All you have said here is that it is possible for God to stop the events from happening not that He must. Big difference. What you are saying here is that just...

    The Good of Man

I said this passage and the context of the entire book shows clearly that Paul teaches that salvation is by faith. I am not giving a proof text. The entire book must be taken into account. However, even the verses you quote in chapter two still do not prove your point. It only says that one is...

    The Good of Man

According to two chapters later (CH 4) Abraham was saved by faith. The same applies to anyone before Christ. It's a good thing the literal text does help. It is clear from this passage and the context of the entire book that one is not saved by the law, rituals, or rites, but only through...

    The Good of Man

The verses you gave say nothing of salvation, merely that even Gentiles have the law written on their heart, and therefore their conscience bears witness with them to defend or accuse them. However, taken in the whole context of the book, there is no justification without faith in Christ.

    The Good of Man

See my above statement. Please explain why based on Rom. 2 you think someone can be saved apart from Christ. Please give references and avoid your ad hominem arguments. Thanks, Brian

    The Good of Man

No. Romans 2 teaches that even if one does not hear the Gospel he still has God's law written on his heart. However, one cannot be saved without Christ. Since he has the law on his heart and knows that he is guilty (according to Rom 2) he will be held accountable. No where in the Bible is...

    God cannot be all-mighty

I understand that, but is just simply isn't the case. Because of the doctrine of analogy. We must use analogical concepts when talking about God. Being itself is analogical. Not in Aristotelian/Thomistic metaphysics. Act means pure existence with no potency, that is potential for...

    God cannot be all-mighty

I agree. Something that is eternal; not subject to befores and afters; does not change; something (in Aristotelian/Thomistic terminology) that is pure act with no potential; etc. To argue from the 5 ways, everything is in motion (changes). There cannot be an infinite series of changing...

    God cannot be all-mighty

To put it crudely, why couldn't an all powerful God allow people to make certain decisions? Wrong. God's knowledge is not dependent on the universe. He has known from eternity; the creation of the universe has not changed God's knowledge. Since God created time he is outside of time...

    Is knowledge finite?

If you don't know, then it should be obvious.

Philosophical argument for the temporality of the universe

I said it is possible for a being to exist that is not part of the universe, and that he could be logical. You asserted that if a being exists outside of the universe it ipso facto must be illogical. I said possible, you said necessary. That's why yours is a non-sequitor. Ok. Anything that...

Philosophical argument for the temporality of the universe

If I am throwing around non-sequitor a lot, it might be because there is a lot of non-sequitors. For example, you assert that if a being exists outside of the universe, or is not confined by the universe, then it exists outside of logic. I call this a non-sequitor simply because it is. It does...
