  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Praying - my will and God's will

I've been wrestling with my prayer requests recently. Knowing that God's will ultimately stands, it makes me wonder if I should only be praying for his will in my life, or if it's ok to pray for the things that I desire. A wife, a family, and some other career-related things. I'm almost to the...

Friends and confessions - old and new

Thank you Gentle Lamb. I completely agree that the distance is there for a reason. I do not want to get drawn back into that lifestyle and the distance affords me the ability to not. But sometimes I will get a call from them, drunk, or cursing like a sailor. Not sure if I just don't pick up or what.

Friends and confessions - old and new

I believe also can be applied to a much broader interpretation--business partners and "the world" in my opinion. While we allow ourselves to be in contact with sinners and friends with them, I do believe there is to be some separation from them and with our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Friends and confessions - old and new

Friends contact me mostly by phone and text...I like the idea of just telling them straight out. For your questions, What do you believe? Jesus died for my sins and was raised from the dead to give life. What evidence do you have for that believe? He worked in me personally. What evidence...

Friends and confessions - old and new

This is just the kind of encouragement I need. I am changed, I'm not the same anymore. I have turned from those ways and turned towards God. I just need to move past this fear of criticism....

Friends and confessions - old and new

Hi Maria, thank you. I understand what you're saying, but I do believe there is a time and a place to end friendships. We are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, and I believe this includes non-Christians.

Friends and confessions - old and new

I'm somewhat of a prodigal son, grew up in the church and ran away but came back. In those 15 years of not living right, I developed friendships with many non-believers. Now I want to just move on from them--and I live in a completely different city now--but many in my previous city still want...

Recently came back to God and have some questions

Wow, your story sounds very much like much like mine. I was born in a Christian, Bible-believing home, even went to a Christian college. I drifted away into the party scene for 15+ years and in my late 30s I felt like God was tapping on my shoulder telling me "look, do you now see that none of...

Friends and acquaintances from old way of life

Thanks. I guess part of the reason I haven't commented is because I feel like when expressing my views during these times here in the US, it just stirs up more controversy and just creates more vitriol. Is it worth it?

Friends and acquaintances from old way of life

Hi, I was born in a Christian family, slowly fell out of church and 15 years later find myself coming back home to Christ, asked forgiveness, and asked Him to rule in my life again and in my heart (Prodigal Son-like). During that time I was away, I developed many friendships and acquaintances...

    Leave behind non-believing friends?

Some are very critical of people of faith, actually many.

    Leave behind non-believing friends?

Thanks everyone, great advice. I don't necessarily feel like I need to preach to them, but if they are wanting me to partake in dirty talk or gossip, I do need to take a stand. Now how to do that is also a question. Do I not respond (let's say it's a group text) or just tell the initiator "I'd...

    Leave behind non-believing friends?

I'm looking for some direction. I was born in the church, ran from God for 20 years, and during that time developed a whole lot of secular, non-believing friends. Some are even anti-God. I've returned to God and have actually moved cities since then, but I still have old friends that want into...

    Tithing from real estate proceeds

I see. Yes, in my case, I have a regular job, and the house was sold after 15 years..I'd rather get the money into God's hands first and continue on with my regular tithe as I get paid for my job.
