  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

A couple questions about the Christian deity

I would say God tells us about ourselves, yes, but rather than "berating", its to wake us up to something we are normally rather blind to - our own nature. But the ultimate context of God's conversation is usually to tell us there is a way out of the mess we are in.

the bible - an outdated understanding of mental illness

Think of your mind as a computer. The nerves and chemical neurotransmitters are the hardware. Conscious thoughts and emotions - including spiritual insights, prayer and so on - are the software, coded into the computer via the hardware. problems in your computer can arise out of problems in...

Feminism viewed from a Christian perspective: Good? Bad? Something else?

Just because some women lie about rape does not mean that rape is not an issue. Rape happens all the time - and it is a sickening, nauseous and one of the most frightening things that can happen to a person.

Bless you, my dear brother. I am all admiration. You are going to make some fortunate woman a great husband :-)

You're probably right. :-) Which is why I see no reason to pretend that what we have is NOT a partnership. IMO, a husband-wife loving-partnership-with-equal-rights- and-joint-decision-making is as valid an interpretation of Scripture as husband-is-the-loving-general-wife second-in-command... In...

    Open/Openness Theology

The context of Num 23 is of a somewhat dubious non-israelite prophet who is asked to curse israel, and he says God has planned to bless the people of israel and will certainly carry out his word. Of course, He will! But look at Jonah. Jonah after coming to his senses (at least some of it!)...

Feminism viewed from a Christian perspective: Good? Bad? Something else?

Rather than thinking of it as an army with one general, I think of it as a firm, a partnership firm, with both members having equal rights, privileges and responsibilities, and deciding things together amicably...:-)

What, ungodly because I think God values men and women equally, and so should we?

Feminism viewed from a Christian perspective: Good? Bad? Something else?

Well patriarchy helped created some men who are only comfortable in leadership positions, and some women who are comfortable only when there is a big strong man around to lead. Similarly, I suppose, the feminist movements may have helped create some women who may be comfortable dominating and...

    Open/Openness Theology

I started a thread and they suggested it shift here, so am happy you opened this thread, lovelyjar. I find it interesting because I could never, otherwise quite get how prayer worked. If God knew what was going to happen, anyway, then what was the point of prayer? Okay, we explained that God...

    Open theism

So you're not in favour of Open theism, then. If God responds to my prayers, that pre-supposes that he is willing to "change" what was probably going to happen, so that the future, then is not "known" or fixed. It could well be that He knows all the possibilities of every possible choice, but...

    Open theism

I have been very interested in this position of late, and would like to get opinions of others, too. I notice, at a very brief glance (I could have missed some threads) that this is not discussed much. Or am i in the wrong place? In any case, isn't it logical to think that God would respond...

Feminism viewed from a Christian perspective: Good? Bad? Something else?

Problem is, no one has yet satisfactorily defined what those are - just about everything one gender can do, which was thought to be THEIR role, the other can and does do, and as well. About the only thing left which is specific to either sex is having babies, nursing them, and maybe throwing...

Feminism viewed from a Christian perspective: Good? Bad? Something else?

Oh yeah, the wedding service is replete with stupid, sexist but actually very powerful symbolism. We could probably have a thread on which was the worst! :-)
