  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Nepalese dig with bare hands for quake survivors as toll rises to 1,900

We've been praying at Daily Mass every day for the victims of the Nepal Earthquake. We also prayed on Sunday Mass. This is a terrible tragedy.

Cardinal Burke Responds to Recent Criticisms

Hey Fish and Bread, I'm sure you agree that to have to choose between the two is a false choice. However, CST is very clear: the right to life first is fundamental, and although we shouldn't have to choose, an abortionless society is a lesser evil. @ Fantine: Thank you for finding...

    Paul lying?

seekingfreedom, Thank you for taking the time to clarify. My point is simply this: the example you are using I believe is flawed. Catholic Moral Teaching makes clear and important distinctions between material/formal cooperation with evil, as well as remote vs proximate cooperation...

Cardinal Burke Responds to Recent Criticisms

Hello again Fantine, I don't think anything is going to be served here by throwing out red herrings. Burke has never said anything about women staying in the kitchen or that women shouldn't have businesses, jobs, or what have you; only that laymen have a role in the Church as well and need to...

Cardinal Burke Responds to Recent Criticisms

Hello again, Fish and Bread. Let me first thank you for a very well presented response. To recap, you said quote "The Republican Party" is a/the party which wishes to defund social programs in order to stop abortion. Note carefully what I asked: That is to say, who would defund social...

Cardinal Burke Responds to Recent Criticisms

Hi Fantine, good to see you again. I still fail to see how that is an unequivocal good that Church hierarchs should be A) Apolitical and B) Not enforce Church discipline. I agree with him in terms of giving out communion, because a necessary connection between the Sacraments and the...

Australia calling for a week of prayer and fasting for the USA

Everyone, it seems to me, needs to be doing a lot of prayer and fasting for each other, and hopefully, a good deal of repentance and self-examination.

Cardinal Burke Responds to Recent Criticisms

Hi again Fish and Bread: Two questions on this front: First, where has Burke threatened anyone? I would call his approach more "admonition" or "warning." As for condemnations, I don't see that, either. In St. Paul's Epistles, he himself passes judgment, warns, and corrects people...

    Paul lying?

If any sin is made necessary, it is also robbed of moral culpability, because if a person or a group of people lacks the capability to resist moral evil, they then do not incur responsibility for rectifying the situation. Say for instance a person with schizophrenia, or some form of brain...

Cardinal Burke Responds to Recent Criticisms

To Frenchdefense: Although I believe that summary to be extremely disingenuous, as I (and Burke) would no doubt be eager to discuss many things on the docket of Catholic Social Teaching, his reasoning, my reasoning, and that of the Ordinary Magisterium of the Church, is that the right to...

Cardinal Burke Responds to Recent Criticisms

Hello again, Ebia! I think it is a bit extreme to say to separate them would be to destroy them. Like any good Thomist, (and I pray I am worthy of the title) we use distinctions in order to clarify and unite, rather than to separate. I made a distinction between ontology, logic and...
