    Pope Benedict XVI is Nestorian

Yeah, you would have done on this side of the pond. The version I'm most familiar with also started with "Ee by gum..." but then I did grow up in Yorkshire. James

    Username Change?

I'll donate you some. Fair's fair, most of mine came from donations when I wanted to change my name. James

    A Couple Sticky Points - Pt I

I have no idea where you can buy them. You can make them if you get the cherries and I could probably get hold of a recipe for you. Unfortunately, sour cherries seem almost impossible to come by here except for already bottled ones so it's not something I've ever tried to make. Sour cherries...

    A Couple Sticky Points - Pt I

In Romanian they are piroşte and I agree that they're good. I've never had savoury ones (though they do exist) but the ones I have had were filled with fruit, in this case sour cherries, and sprinkled with caramelised sugar. James

    Anybody know psychology?

Weird. I was a psychologist (even worked in a psychiatric hospital for a while) and later sort of fell into programming. Now I do the latter for a living. I'd thought I was the only one as I never meet anyone else in IT with a similar background - and now I see I'm not. James

    The Armenian genocide....

The Albanians aren't Slavs. They've certainly been in Europe longer than that. They claim to be the descendants of the Illyrians, though there's very good evidence to doubt that, but the only other language with related terms to Albanian is Romanian - and those always in terms pre-dating the...

Not Trying To Be Dumb, But...

This is why I'm glad that in Romania no oil means no olive oil. I couldn't cook with no oil at all (and xerophagy is not the norm during the fasts, it's only supposed to happen on certain distinct days). I've been told before by Slavs that they were very glad that 'no wine' for them allowed beer...

Communion ONLY 4 Times A Year?

Not giving communion at all must be an Old Calendarist thing. At normal Romanian churches the Eucharist is offered. Unfortunately, there is a much lamented tradition amongst Romanians of only communing during the main fasts, which means at most four times a year. However, this is only true for...

    Orzo soup

How does one become a god cook? Sounds blasphemous. (Sorry but I couldn't resist). James

    Orzo soup

ma2000, I just found a recipe for borş (that's the liquid used to sour soup etc. in Romania I referred to before, in case anyone else is wondering)! Can you tell me if this looks about right? I'm slightly suspicious because it's in English rather than Romanian. Everyone else, I decided...

    Pope Benedict XVI is Nestorian

I'd say the title of this thread ought to be something like 'Pope Benedict is confused'. The first quote is certainly Nestorian. The last quote ends up Monophysite and the middle one sounds like something a Baha'i would say. If anything can prove that the 'dogma' that the Holy Spirit preserves...

What is the Orthodox Biblican canon?

Yes and no. It's my understanding that the Ethiopian Broad Canon includes extra NT books. I can't remember what exactly they are but I'm pretty sure they include the Shepherd of Hermas, for instance. There is also an Ethiopian Narrow canon, though, which i believe does have an idfentical NT to...

    Orzo soup

I tend not to use recipes for soup. I kind of grew up with soups being a staple because of my German and Czech background and my wife's got the same from her upbringing in Romania. As a result, we both tend to know what works and what doesn't and just make something up from whatever we have in...

    Orzo soup

I wondered if it was something to do with 'orz' as well. So it'stiny grains of pasta? I think I prefer my original assumption - soup with pearl barley in it. Hmmm. James

    Nativity Hymnal Traditions

ma2000, Good choices (my favourite's Trei pastori) I can't listen to them here because I'm at work, but I'll definitely have a look when I get home. James
