  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's pretty clear that you haven't looked into vegetarianism that much, and have probably always just assumed that vegetarians are unhealthy. It's true that meats contain all the essential amino acids your body needs. However you can get all the essential amino acids your body needs through a...

    Animals and compassion

God didn't create animals for the purpose of being our food and protection. He allowed us to use them as such after man's original sin. His original plan didn't involve us even eating animals, but He killed the first animal after man's first sin. Why would God mention being compassionate to...

    Animals and compassion

There needs to be a distinction between animal rights activists and the idea that animals have rights. Just because there are some (lets call them crazy) people who help support an idea doesn't mean that an idea doesn't have merit. Take into consideration all the crazy people who have done bad...

    Should we ever support war?

Jesus says to love our neighbor as ourselves, and to turn the other cheek. Knowing this, it's clear that we should never support war of any kind. However, I know many Christians (I use the term loosely) who support war. Why is that?

To me, treating animals with compassion and animal rights are the same thing. Can you please explain what your view is on why there is difference between the two?

I'm not vegan, but all the vegans I know do it out of compassion for animals, and they believe it's healthier for you (which it probably is, since they don't end up eating saturated fats). I agree with their sentiment that it's better for an animal to be dead than it is for that animal to live a...

    Animals and compassion

Like you said, the verse is about compassion. It's about the righteous having compassion for their beast rather than the wicked who show no compassion. If the first part is talking about recognizing the value of your beast, the next part about compassion seems to come out of no-where. The verse...

Proverbs 12:10 "A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal". Even without strict instruction from the Bible to not impose suffering on animals, God gave us the ability to recognize morality. God gave us dominion over the animals, and we should be able to use our moral intuition...

Should we give up our wealth?

That's true, but it's still a selfish way to spend one's money. One could be spending one's money (and thus putting people to work) by buying something to alleviate someone's suffering. If you're not attached to this world through your money and possessions, then it should be an easy decision to...

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with eating meat. However animals need to be treated in such a way that they don't suffer while they're alive. Right now our system of mass producing meat causes so many animals to suffer, it's disgusting to think about. If you watch the documentary, you'll...

    Animals and compassion

I don't think anyone's going to argue that animals are as smart as humans. However, a creature's intelligence doesn't determine whether it's ethical to cause it suffering. You would never say that it's not as bad to let a mentally handicapped person suffer as it is to let a normal person suffer...

But the animals didn't have to suffer while they were alive.

    Animals and compassion

Sorry, I meant to write "humane" not "human" (if that makes any difference). You're right that there is a huge distinction between animals and humans to be made. There is almost no comparison between killing a human and killing an animal. I agree that we have a greater responsibility to other...

    Animals and compassion

Animals aren't any more like electronic machines than our own bodies are like electronic machines. Animals are biological creatures who have hormones and respond to stimuli similar to the way our own bodies respond to stimuli. Electronics don't feel emotion because they don't have hormones or...

Should we give up our wealth?

If I'm not mistaken, that's an old testament rule, given to a certain time and people. Jesus gave us new rules to follow.
