  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Statues of Mary = Statues of Jesus?

I just want to remind everyone here that we are all Christians here. Instead of name calling and stating your positions as though they are the final end all be all (calling certain groups idol worshiper etc), try to understand why certain traditions have icons, statues, etc. and why some...

    Lay pastoral roles?

That's really interesting. I never imagined that a parish would have bloggers and youtubers but now that I think of it, it makes sense for evangelizing and outreach purposes

    Lay pastoral roles?

Thank you so much. Forgive me for not being able to put into words exactly what I'm looking for, as I am still trying to figure that out myself. Perhaps I could have worded it better but I was mainly seeking information concerning non-ordained positions within the ministry. I just see that the...

    Lay pastoral roles?

If I may ask, what is the actual job of people occupying these roles?

    Lay pastoral roles?

Thanks! Well as far as what I envision, I suppose my idea of what pastoral means is influenced by my Baptist roots, being in the Baptist tradition that of a teacher and helper/guide. I want to serve God in the ministry and I feel as though God has gifted me with leadership abilities and an...

    Lay pastoral roles?

I'm someone who has a serious interest and an intent to join the Orthodox Church (I already have a parish I attend and I intend on starting classes there next week) and I have a question regarding ministry and extra-priestly roles within the parish. I feel as though God is calling me toward the...

Looking for Liturgy in a Baptist family

There's actually an OCA parish 45 minutes away from me that I've been attending semi-regularly. I'm going to start attending their Adult Class starting tomorrow. It's a parish in which half of the attendees are converts, and those that are cradle come from various ethnic backgrounds, so all our...

Looking for Liturgy in a Baptist family

That's actually really interesting. Thanks for sharing. Now do these strict Lutherans view their institution (synod, those who they are in communion w, ect.) to literally be The One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, or is the view that there is a "universal" Church that transcends...

Looking for Liturgy in a Baptist family

Well ELCA is the only Lutheran body who's parish I've attended. This is because my friend Athena is ELCA Lutheran and recommended me it. I liked it but I of course am seeking to better understand the doctrine and reasons for holding said doctrine. I'm not trying to bash Anglicanism (though...

Looking for Liturgy in a Baptist family

perhaps I misspoke, I meant to reference the attitude towards the differing opinions on doctrine held by different individuals and parishes within the episcopal church. Like the distinction between Anglo-Catholics and more Evangelical Episcopalians. So not really institutional splintering but...

Looking for Liturgy in a Baptist family

I want to take this opportunity to ask what the Lutheran view on Church unity is. I see there are many differing groups within Lutheranism, with some having variable doctrinal beliefs. I know the EO church is of the opinion that the ideal should be all Christians unified under one ecclesiastic...

Looking for Liturgy in a Baptist family

Thanks man, I might check this out once I figure out my budget for this pay period. Not to seem cheap, but are there any free resources for getting a closer look at lutheran theology?

Looking for Liturgy in a Baptist family

I’m fairly familiar with EO doctrine but need to dive a bit deeper into Lutheran theology since basically all I know is from AP European History and it turns out secular accounts aren’t the best way to have doctrine explained to you.
