  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was brought up as a Lutheran.

I had an "spiritual experience" which was totally alien to me and, since the experience happened during the meditation period at the end of a yoga class, I started my search in Indian philosophy.

My search took me from the beliefs of India, to the beliefs of Tibet to the beliefs of Chinese Taoism.

This possibility of "God within myself" was well nigh unto blasphamy according to Lutheranism. After 10 years I went to a Greek Festival at an Orthodox Church. When I took the church tour we went through the bookstore. There before my eyes was everything that I had been sending all the way to bookstores in India to find.

Not only was it not blasphamas -- it was Christian!

On 16 January, 2012 I found my Spiritual Father while on retreat at St. Tikhon's Monastery in Pennsylvania.

My avitar is "The Ladder of Divine Ascent" Icon.
