  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Church charges brought against Sessions

My quoted comment was a response to another post. I did not use the terms you object to independently. But it is interesting that you left mention of MS13 and child traffickers out of my quote...

    Church charges brought against Sessions

Actually, the same information is found on DHS.gov which is where I might suspect the NOLO and Pew information is sourced. But, my bad, I thought when DHS defined some of the reports as "Refugees and Asylees" that the corresponding data would be lumped together ... not the case. Look at Table 17...

    Church charges brought against Sessions

The purpose of laws has less to do with compassion than to prevent injustice. Perhaps similar concepts in some respects but laws are still worth something even if compassion is not relevant (i.e. "no compassion behind them"). For instance, you don't establish a law against murder in order to...

Also, per DHS: "A refugee is a person outside his or her country of nationality who is unable or unwilling to return to his or her country of nationality because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution. An asylee is a person who meets the definition of refugee and is already present...

    Church charges brought against Sessions

Not sure why you bother to quote my response when you don't address it. So I guess your response is #1: "These people don't want to use the asylum centers and intentionally put their children at risk."? But it could be #2 since you apparently agree that they are crossing the border illegally...

    Church charges brought against Sessions

If they were going through "exactly that process" they would be using the asylum centers and not crossing the border. Either you believe that 1) these people don’t want to use the asylum centers and intentionally want to put their children at risk (if they are their children) or 2) they are...

    Church charges brought against Sessions

Yes, but that's not the process I'm talking about and doesn't prevent you from being separated from your children.

    Church charges brought against Sessions

“But Jesus, knowing their evil intent, said, “You hypocrites, why are you trying to trap me? Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius, and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?”” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22:18-20‬ ‭NIV‬‬...

    Church charges brought against Sessions

There is a process to seeking asylum and it doesn't include crossing the border illegally and putting your child at risk. Shame on the parents trying to use their children as "get out of jail free cards" - do the right thing and do it legally.

    Church charges brought against Sessions

Of course, they broke the law and they needn't cross the border illegally to claim asylum which can be done within their own country's borders. If I don't agree with you, I'm not a Christian? That has nothing to do with my faith. By the way, it's not a policy; it is law. There's a legal way...

    Church charges brought against Sessions

The parents broke the law. The separation from their children is part of their consequences. Should we not incarcerate anyone who is a parent and has committed a crime?

    Few Questions??

What if you were to focus less on denomination and go to a Christian church with friends? Might that be a good place to start? But, another point: it should be difficult to find a church where you are not offended (not talking about hypocritical judgment you endured) or challenged. How else are...

    War

Should we pray? Sure. But that's not the point of this thread is it? No one is saying not to pray. I was just reading Mere Christianity, CS Lewis says a few things related to the subject. "All killing is not murder any more than all sexual intercourse is adultery. When the soldiers came to St...
