  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

If Jesus implies in Matthew 12:46-50 that true family is not based on genes, how does this square with needing to be a descendant of the Hebrew kings?

I agree with the verses, but doesn't it kind of challenge the necessity of needing to be born in important royal lineages?

Why are only certain things in the catechism excused under the "mental illness" umbrella

No, the concept I'm asking about seems unique to the catechism. Understanding the catechism. It's an observance that was noticed and piqued my curiosity.

Why are only certain things in the catechism excused under the "mental illness" umbrella

Self-harm is a very sensitive topic. In the catechism, the writers mention that God's mercy potentially lifts the weight off those who are driven down the path to it by certain conditions of the mind. I was reading about it last week with someone (for clarification, that someone is a Catholic...

A question relevant to Matthew 6

Many if not most versions of this chapter talk about the difference between doing things because they are righteous and doing things because they will look righteous. However, a question arises in my mind when we consider situations where there are shades of nuance between what is righteous and...

Why was Jesus portrayed as poor given his background?

Jesus is mentioned often as being poor, and often this is contrasted with "spiritual wealth" which he has a lot of. This strikes me as odd for a few reasons. First and foremost, he did have a job. He was a carpenter. I can't imagine someone having a job for a decade and a half if it wasn't...

If in mainstream Mormon thought, Mormons are against caffeine, are they against tryptophan too?

Oh. Was just wondering mainly, wasn't trying to promote Mormonism if that confused anyone. Sorry about that. Though I didn't know Mormons weren't considered Christian. They do fall under the Nicene Creed, to my knowledge.

If in mainstream Mormon thought, Mormons are against caffeine, are they against tryptophan too?

I'm not what would be considered a non-Christian (who said I was?)

If in mainstream Mormon thought, Mormons are against caffeine, are they against tryptophan too?

Tryptophan is basically caffeine in reverse, right? So if you can't have one, can you have the other?

    Honor and dishonor of forgiveness

I should start by saying, although I'm not a Catholic, I am a Christian who practices confession, probably being in a category of her own in a way (my gateway into Christ was an obscure book called The Mune Shinri, which is relatively random in terms of spiritual commentary). There exists a lot...
