  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    What are Works of supererogation?

So, recently I've been reading Rev Hooker's 1888 edition of the first volume of his works and in its preface/introduction, I came upon this point of "works of supererogation" regarding his discourse with a Rev Hoo. What are "works of supererogation" and how does it fit theologically?

Clement Admonishes the Jews to Repent

My understanding is that the church at Corinth at the time had once been one of love and acceptance in the goodness of the Lord. But then sedition and envy found its way into the church, and was destroying the congregation from within. Clement was showing that this envy and hatred was...

Does this sit right for you?

'1 John 3. 10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother. 11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, 12 not as Cain who...

Does this sit right for you?

So, I just started studying with a Book called A Divine Tapestry by Ryan M. McGraw. It is a great book summarizing each chapter of the Bible and providing memory verses for each chapter... but, His opening summation of Genesis is, "God covenants with fallen human beings, promising to undo the...

    Guess the heresy...

Simple rebuttal.... 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

    Guess the heresy...

Christian clergy must be faultless for their ministry to be effective and their prayers and sacraments to be valid. I'm just wondering. When concerned over our testimony, do we feel/believe we have to be blameless in our conduct in order to have a valid ministry? And do we therefore...

    A 60+ year old freshman

One is that I have a permanent disability which effects my short-term memory, and so it takes longer to learn, than someone else who might be learning the same material. GGBC allows me to learn at my own pace, so if I take a week or two to finish a lesson, that's okay. The second is a sense of...

    A 60+ year old freshman

Well, I finally embarked on a new journey. The journey of actually learning what I am going to be studying. I know its a foreign concept for undergrad studies, since so much time can be spent on the extra-curricular activities encumbent upon a younger individual finding his or her way in life...

Do you know any downloadable Bible apps for a desktop computer, that are good for printing?

Some word processors are piggy backed on a spread sheet. The default is to interpret all numbers as numeric functions in an equation. The only way to fix this in a text document (and I have tried every other option I could think of) is to declare the number as a field entry by using a non...

    READING Church History

I've barely scratched the surface of the theological writings of the Puritans. They have shown themselves to be rich, deep, and rewarding to me as a reader.

15th and 16th century Christian wars Protestants having wars and even with eachother, what do we think about this today?

There are some big rabbit holes in Christian history, that the more you dig, the more you realize how much work was done theologically to bring us to where we are today. For instance, after 1000 AD, with the advent of Thomas Aquinas' Summa Theologica, people began to think theologically in...

    What are you reading?

Hey guys, first time on this part of the forum. Greetings. Just finished the Story of My Misfortunes by Peter Abelard and am halfway through Martin Luther's Against Henry King of England. Peter died around 1142 and good ol' Henry viii was a staunch Catholic known as the Defender of the Church...

Who were the early Anglican theologians, and are their written works available?

Just wondering with the Reformation if there were theologians who took a reformed perspective within the Anglican faith? And are their written works available? While the common prayer book is the culmination of the theological discussion during the Reformation, I'm just wondering who were the...
