  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

yes, sort of. They are still welcome to come to church and if they choose to, get back on track through repentance This is almost laughable.... as for why a quorum of 12 is needed.... ask Jesus... last time I checked he chose 12 men... again, until you personally listen to them or read...

@@@@ Phoebe Ann I am new to this forum so I dont really know many people here, I didnt know that you used to be a part of the church. If it isn't too personal would you mind sharing what caused you to leave? I really am interested, in a none-judgemental critical way :-)

I would let him know what you saw. Just understand that he might try to deny it or even down play it. Try not to attack him, which might be tough, but attacking him will actually reinfore the fact of lieing to you and telling you that nothing is wrong.

of course not.... when it comes to getting a temple recommend they ask you if you associate with a apostate group.... something along those lines.... meaning if I am activley a part of a group that supports abortion or things of that nature...then yes, I would not qualify for a temple...

It is funny how people are, in all areas of their life, are guided or influenced by others. You quote "fact" about the LDS religion, but let me ask you. Have you ever read the book of mormon? Doctrine and Coventant? Pearl of great price? Have you ever heard a general conference. I mean, all...

and I personally believe that it comes from lack of self confidence. I can assure you that you dont feel like that just with lds members but that you feel like that in general..... regardless, the few people that you meet that might give that impression, which could be just a story that you tell...

Hey skylark1 The view of grace in LDS doctrine is the following. We are saved by grace after all we can do. I know that their are many beliefs that all we have to do is be alive and we are "saved" which in this sense we are talking about heaven or living with God.... So the way that we...

I am a happy member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint. I am happy with my religious beliefs and feel close to God. I am far far far from perfect but I am trying to do better every day. From personal experience in the mission field, it is absolutly pointless to try and argue with...

    Threatening??

you mention a lot of "facts" and "evidence".... have you ever been inside a mormon temple before? the testimony that I have of Joseph Smith and of the LDS church is not one based on facts but of a spiritual confirmation. Now this is my personal answer, it doesnt have to mean that it is yours...

I desperately need advice on a very touchy subject

Personally if I were in your shoes I would do it after the semester, which isnt THAT long away. About what? 5-6 months? My wife and I waited 5 months after our engagment. It was tough but I had to help her focus on the things that were going to last, for example. She wanted a huge huge...
