  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    The Commandments of God

But Hansen, this is exactly why I showed you that John did support the idea of keeping the Decalogue in his writings. The context of his writings support keeping the commandments of God-all of them. The NT writings support life in the spirit under the grace of justification by faith I guess...

    The Commandments of God

The purpose of John's writings, is to point people to Jesus Christ. I chose to focus on John because so many of the supposed proof texts originate in his writings. Once John's teaching on the subject is understood, passages which are less clear can also be understood in the light of the easily...

    The Commandments of God

T + O, If you have other things to do, that's fine. Thank you for your time. Prooftexting is the use of passages without reference to context or the intent of the original writer. I certainly make every effort to not do that. I'm of the opinion that others are not as careful. Take care.

    The Commandments of God

T+ O, Reading comprehension is an important aspect of Biblical literacy. Perhaps I was unclear in my attempt to communicate. I don't equate mentioning aspects of the Decalogue with them being an issue. From where I stand, the Decalogue was not an issue in any of his writings. By "issue," in...

SO, YOU THINK OUR NATION is in TURMOIL NOW?

A very high percentage of the illegal immigrants from Mexico are Roman Catholic. The RC church is very active in illegal immigration. They had a movement or perhaps still have called the Sanctuary. It provides/provided havens for illegal immigrants in and around church property. Jesuits in...

The twentieth century's foremost Sabbatarian - SDA perspective?

Common knowledge? I think not. Jerry Falwell, Jimmy Swaggart, Oral Roberts, and Jim Baker." Those guys were nobodies in 1968. On the other hand, Billy Graham was holding large crusades in the early sixties when the names above were virtually unknown. I don't believe that Mr. Armstrong was...

    The Commandments of God

T and O, I simply wanted to point out that the writings of John are often incorrectly used to hold people to an artificial standard. I often misused the texts which I quoted and I have heard others do the same. I'm not sure by which confusion you do not feel led. How is that relevant to the...

    The Commandments of God

Commandment is a translation of the Greek word entolh, Strong’s # 1785. It is often used by John in his gospel, epistles and Revelation. Some of our favorite proof texts such as “If you love me, keep my commandments” include the word entolh. We often assume that commandments refer to the...

The twentieth century's foremost Sabbatarian - SDA perspective?

Soldier of the King. I find the comparison between Armstrong and Billy Graham incredible. Where did you get your information regarding the influence and popularity of Mr. Armstrong?

"Flames over Battle Creek" -the George Amadon Story by Milton Hook

Waggoner's biography is an interpretation, a commentary, if you will. While interesting, I would much prefer to see Waggoner's actual articles. If anyone has the ability to post or email them to me, I would be very grateful.

    The law mentioned in scripture

"You mentioned that you haven't checked into the differences between ordinances and commandments" Did I mention that? The New Testament does not make these distinctions. There may be some exceptions and context is usually the final arbiter. Jesus and Paul both referred to the writings of...

"Flames over Battle Creek" -the George Amadon Story by Milton Hook

Dr. Hook, If you are still around, I'd like to know if, in your reading of Waggoner's ST articles, you found any evidence that he was trying to move the church toward a Lutheran emphasis regarding justification by faith. I have heard that Waggoner was quoting Luther's Commentary on Galatians...

    The law mentioned in scripture

"The major issue with obeying God has always been the Ten Commandments." That may be the issue for the legalist. However, for the Christian, the issue has been, and is, faith in Christ. The "obedience of faith" mentioned in the following verses explains that faith in Christ is obedience: Ro...

    The law mentioned in scripture

Jon, I certainly understand your feelings. Continually going over the same ground is wearisome, that's for sure. As you can see, I'm new here. I haven't been over this ground again and again, so for me, it's not wearisome, yet. If you prefer to not discuss this issue, that's ok. Perhaps someone...
