  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

If you eat out Chinese buffet normally has enough items to pick from or a fish place. Even some BBQ places now have veggie meals made with mushrooms or Tofu as a meat replacement.

Do the Orthodox Worship the Eucharist?

I have read Orthodox critiques of western form of piety such as the sacred heart and the like which is similar in some fashion to Eucharist worship. We worship Jesus in his entirety not just part of Jesus which worshiping a part of Jesus can have a Nestorian like view where the sacred heart and...

    Russia and Ukraine - why?

In an interview with Met. Hilarion the BBC stated/asked "Judging from what we saw in the transcript of the talk of Patriarchs Bartholomew and Kirill, two discourses have clashed – a conditionally liberal one on the part of Constantinople and a conditionally conservative one on the part of the...

The Orthodox Survival Course is bootleged online by the way but it is only lecture notes but presents great info

    Modern Gnosticism

Both books are great, but "The Soul After Death," does deal a lot with the occult and modern new age type spirituality especially "spiritual experiences." I wish they would get around to publishing the "Orthodox Survival Course," in a book form by someone skilled enough to turn Fr. Seraphim...

    Modern Gnosticism

No, "The Soul After Death," goes a lot into discernment and is a great compliment to "Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future."

    A Question

From what you have written, this is a Roman Catholic view on baptismal theology after Vatican II. Fr. Peter Heers does a good job of exposing these beliefs and what all it entails when accepted. Some of these views have crept into Orthodoxy. Traditionally Orthodox have received people by...

    Modern Gnosticism

I would recommend "The Soul after Death," by Seraphim Rose. it has a great amount of information on discernment from an Orthodox perspective that relates to what you talking about. It has great info for anyone coming out of a charismatic and or new age environment.

(Orthodox Only) I'd like your input

From an Orthodox perspective, the distortion that happened in the west that would eventually lead to Roman Catholicism really had its start during the Carolingian Empire. I would say that the protestants of the reformation except for maybe the top leaders would have had very little knowledge of...

    Western Rite Orthodoxy

I have not attended a Western Rite liturgy, but I am kind of a liturgical maximalist. I love attending the liturgy of St. James on his feast day, and I really would like to attend a Western Rite liturgy in the future. Some of the liturgies that are used are pre-schism ancient liturgies of the...
