  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Capital Punishment(a little more specific)

If I may ask, why is Romans 13 unconvincing to you? It was very convincing to me. This is mostly because this verse communicates three important things to me: 1. the Christian duty to honor and support the secular governments they are under (a default but not ultimate position as fear of the...

    Christians under Attack in Academia

I agree that only public schools are required by law to have state certification for teachers and counselors. However, many (if not most) private schools prefer for their teacher hires to be state certified, I would not be surprised if the trend extended to counselors as well. Not to mention...

    Christianity and capitalism. Odd bedfellows?

Hi Archivist, Defining the left - right spectrum is a messy and ever shifting business. I would certainly be more inclined to see fascism (at least in its national socialism variety), with its characteristic collective goals and progressive visions of temporal salvation for the group as closer...

    Christians under Attack in Academia

I as yet do not understand why her choice to refer a gay client seeking counseling help that would affirmatively support a gay relationship means that she can't or won't do the job. Are these situations so common that they make up even a large minority of cases that a counselor will deal with...

    Christians under Attack in Academia

It seems to me, after reading the article, the ruling, and Laconic's appreciated posts trying to explain the professional position, that this may not be the best perspective on the situation. It seems that the APA and the employer have implanted their religious into her counseling, which is...

    Christians under Attack in Academia

It certainly makes sense to me that a procedure to refer clients to somebody who is more likely to be able to help the client on their normative terms is the appropriate way to handle these types of situations. Not every counselor is going to be effective with every client, if the profession is...

What are the views on universal health care in the US

I assume you are referring to the World Health Organization rankings here. They do indeed put America's health care provision in the low 30's and only two better then Cuba. However, the methodology used by the WHO is that almost half of its measurements are indicators of equality in health-care...

The worthy job of the soldier

There is very much a noble purpose in defending people, which (unfortunately) in our fallen world too often requires killing other people. In a world were human aggression is so often unleashed I am inclined to believe that pacifism, or the refusal to fight and if necessary kill aggressors, is a...

    Being pure without touching yourself?

A question on this statement. Are you and I interpreting Jesus' admonishment below differently? - But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. (Matthew 5:28) Is your point that sexual thoughts about a non-married woman are...

    Christians under Attack in Academia

Okay, Am I correct in concluding that according to the APA (and you) that counselors are supposed to approach clients on the clients moral and behavioral terms then? Accordingly if a counselor believes that the clients behavior is detrimental to their well being they need to check that personal...

    The Blame Game~ Poll

I voted for both. Jesus made it clear that sin is in the heart and that thinking lustfully towards a women is adultery, so men are clearly not off the hook here. That being said, I am also pretty sure that women who dress provocatively in order to attract the attention of men will be held...

    Christians under Attack in Academia

If I may ask a good-faith question regarding your statement. If a married client came in needing help with his relationship with his mistress and it becomes implicitly clear that he is not looking to end the relationship, what is the appropriate course of action for the counselor? I am actually...

What is a "Moderate Christian" theologically?

Hi all, I really like this particular discussion and I thank everyone who has contributed. I also like the civil and measured tone that has prevailed. Hopefully in that spirit I can state that I'm not sure I quite understand where you are coming from here and seek some further clarification...

What I have noticed about the abortion and homosexuality controversies...

Hello again Sam, First off let me just say that I really appreciate the openess and honesty of your response. Judging by your last post I am inclined to believe that you being condemned to eternal damnation isn't a major issue in this discussion. As far as I know loving Christ and accepting...

What I have noticed about the abortion and homosexuality controversies...

Hi Sam, I apologize for not responding in a timely manner, I am with my kids this summer and cannot post as often as I would like right now. I read your personal testimony and let me first say that I would much rather have you in the place you are now then the place you were before. Being able...
