  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Colorado Gunman: Here we go again...

That doesn't change what he did, and it does not take his responsibility away from it. Mentally ill or not, he killed innocents. Do I wish the warning signs had been given credence to and this kid had gotten help? Of course. Do I think that he was doomed to commit this tragedy, a monster from...

Smily abuse is unethical and immoral.

Hahaha! I'm probably one of the few people on this forum that get that.

    I'm disappointed

Well, what do you expect from the media? Hey, I'm quite liberal, and even I can't stand the so-called "liberal media". They lie. There's not getting around it. Example: Despite what the media portrays, based on FBI and Department of Justice statistics, this generation of youth is the most...

Colorado Gunman: Here we go again...

Shooters don't get to be victims. It's doubtless millions of people have suffered and endured far worse lives than any of the mass-murdering horrors that butcher innocents. It is only these few that take it upon themselves to inflict pain on innocent others because of that suffering. Such...

    I'm disappointed

Everyone knows strawberry ice cream warps your mind and forces you to do terrible, despicable things. Statistically, most people who eat Strawberry ice cream are Christian. Also, statistically speaking, I and my Atheist/Agnostic brethren prefer the wholesome, righteous vanilla. Let this be a...

DNA Disproves Evolution And Favors Creation

I think a better question is "Why haven't the creationists published proper scientific papers?...period."

    God and Evil, the Paradox

Dear Emmy, Suppose a madman walks into an office building and starts shooting people up. You are in another building directly next to it, and from your window, you can see the carnage unfold without actually being in danger yourself. You simply stand there, and watch, but don't even bother to...

Being pure an act of rebellion???

Yeah, man! All those devil-women like Mary Shelley and Susan B. Anthony and Eleanor Roosevelt and Oprah Winfrey and Jane Goodall. How dare they attempt to establish a strong, constructive female standard in America! Yeah, cause when I look up the word "ladylike" in the dictionary, I totally...

    God and Evil, the Paradox

"Is God is willing to prevent evil but unable? Then he is not omnipotentIs God able but not willing to stop evil? Then he is malevolent If he is both willing and able? Then wence come evil?If he is neither willing nor able? Then why call him God?" - Epicurus, 341-271 B.C.E. 2300 years old...

The Godless Delusion: Illogical, Unscientific & Mathematically Unsound .

Well, despite this entire argument leading up to a classic "God of the Gaps" argument (which, to my knowledge, no informed person gives credence to), I'm going to refute it anyway. Or at least a major fallacy. Creationists seem to have this idea that science pretends to know and currently be...

    Discrimination

"Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from a religious conviction." - Blaise Pascal (who became, by the way, a lauded Christian apologist and theologian). I dont have a problem with your religion. I have a problem with the things the "followers" of your religion do...

how do you decide who to marry?

Well, I'm going to take a leap here and assume most of us think that marrying for love is better than "because your Dad says so". So...care to explain why you favor old-school marriages? On a side note: I'd just like to express how thankful I am (to no deity in particular) that we don't live in...

Burning Sodomites Alive: Holy & Right?

This is exactly the point Christianity broke down for me. If this is the only reason you can give, then it leads to the conclusion that "God is fear." Wasn't it the Bible that says "God is love."? And no, call me defiant, but I'd rather burn in Hell out of defiance than side with a...

Being pure an act of rebellion???

Well, I think the concept of staying pure until marriage is one that's important to Christian faith and one that's supported Biblically. I'd describe it as a "cute" concept. It's romantic and flowery, and I think it's a noble commitment for those who decide to do it. I'm certainly not bashing...

Harry Potter is vile: This is why...

That brings up an interesting point. HP is not witchcraft in the slightest. It's simple, harmless fantasy. I think anyone with much logical sense about them can see that. However, supposing it was a book promoting Paganism. It isn't, but hypothetically, suppose JK Rowling came out tomorrow and...
