  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Arriving at beliefs

I'm sure one of the reasons why there weren't more written eye witness accounts of Jesus was due to the lack of literacy. Duh! (And I also imagine that the culture back then was much more accepting & reliant on oral tradition.) What IS so shocking is the lack of "written testimony" from eye...

    Arriving at beliefs

Ew! Gross! LOL But I agree with you. If the government couldn't hide a private sex affair that just one, two, or three people knew about, there's NO WAY they could hide a fake moon landing. And BTW, wouldn't an extension of this thought process also mean that there probably WASN'T an...

    Arriving at beliefs

Belief in the moon landing, because: 1. Overwhelming preponderance of evidence 2. Personal knowledge, experience, insight & expectations of human nature, government & culture (Isn't it crazy to think that the smartphone on your pocket had more computing power than the spaceship that went...

    Man in the Valance

Ha Ha! :D To be honest, I had a little trouble following what you were saying in your original post. (I think you must be alot smarter than me!) But personally, I never saw the wisdom in piecemeal intelligence: 1. The man who relies on nothing but the Bible for wisdom is missing out 2...

    Man in the Valance

Sometimes I think we over-think things... I think. God gave you lots of resources to understand existence, including wisdom, curiosity, tools, morality, intuition, imagination, foresight, the observable world, the unobservable world, and Gospel. Why not use ALL the resources?

If One Believes in Intelligent Design...

Are you asking why God would also give a rose its thorns? (I think American philosopher Bret Michaels addressed this question already.)

What is the meaning of Life?

What's so interesting about the Bible (to me) is that it works on multiple levels of literature. Some parts have historic value. Some parts have poetic value. But ALL parts have communicative value. When Jesus calls Peter his rock, he's not calling him a literal rock! That's not...

    under siege

Yes I used to hear growing up, "Adversity doesn't build character. Character is who you are. Adversity REVEALS character, and it's always up to us to decide what kind of character we want to have."

What is the meaning of Life?

I understand what you are saying. IMHO, "Original Sin" doesn't do a real good job at describing what it was really about, because the phrase makes it sound like, oops!, your ancient grandparents sinned and YOU must suffer! But really, I think "Original Sin" was about choices. One "choice" was...

What is the meaning of Life?

Thanks so much for the very nice note, Emmy! One of the really hard things to come to grips with is, if God's love is part of the Meaning of Life, then why do bad things happen to good people? Why would a loving God do that? I think it's because (I didn't make this idea up, but I believe it...

What is the meaning of Life?

Yes, I agree with most of what you said about religion and Christianity. People DO abuse it, and people DO use it to justify abusing others. (I guess it's also true that we humans have a pretty bad track record at abusing just about EVERYTHING that's good.... love, the earth, animals, food...

What is the meaning of Life?

LOL some ideas.... As a Christian, the Meaning of Life and Purpose to Life are sort of intertwined: To love & follow the footsteps of Christ, and to love & help my fellow man. But I have an advantage (if you want to call it that, I'm not trying to say it in a mean way or anything) of being...
