Hey does anyone like secular music???

Yeah, Pandora is pretty amazing. I haven't really discovered new music because of it, but I like to see how they determine what goes in what category, etc.

    shape note singing

Anyone familiar with shape note singing? Recently, I was introduced to the idea of shape note singing by Matt Hinton, who, with his wife Erica, made a documentary about the topic. Awake My Soul is the name of the documentary. It's excellent, and thought-provoking. thirdday.com/awake

    rules of your college?

I go to a Bible College. They try and stay away from legalism with issues like chapel attendance and modesty--drilling instead, the heart issue, which I like. Of course there are some modesty standards, but nothing crazy. We can't miss more than 25% of class - pretty lenient. We can't drink...

Hey does anyone like secular music???

The majority of music I listen to is secular. I listen to many genres, but always have a soft spot for folk artists and singer-songwriters. Many of the secular artists I listen to claim to be believers. The only Christian artists I listen to who are also Christian-bookstore-friendly are the...

    Transcendental Argument

Thank you...those links are very helpful. I think I'm going to just write on the topic instead of the history. I'd actually downloaded Cheung's "Sermon on the Mount" before, but had forgotten about the others. Thanks again!

    Transcendental Argument

Hi, I posted this in Apologetics, but figured I'd post it here too. I'm researching the origin and development of the transcendental argument for the existence of God. The tricky part is that I'm working backward from Van Til, maybe including Joseph Butler. Anyone help me with good...

    Calvinistic Music Groups

Other excellent Christian reformed musicians are: Andrew Peterson Andrew Osenga As a matter of fact, I'd wager that many Square Peg Alliance (squarepegalliance.net) members are reformed, but that would be a guess. There's also Red Mountain Music who do reworked hymns like Indelible Grace.

    Philips, Craig & Dean

aside from their music, something you should weigh when listening to their lyrics: http://www.afcministry.com/Phillips_Craig_Dean_Oneness.htm (I don't support every conclusion drawn from the site, such as boycotting them, but just know that they may not believe in the same God-in-three-persons...

Alternatives to "The Purpose Driven Life"?

I'd either go with the aforementioned "Don't Waste Your Life" by Piper, or Piper's "Desiring God."

    Dogwood

I listened to Dogwood for a time. They were about the only Christian punk act whose song-writing I found above par, and even intellectual/convicting.

    Help me answer this question

Aside from the previously addressed holiness issue... God's grace covers our eternal damnation with the blood of Jesus, but God desires more than just reconciliation; he desires a life that reflects him, best to his glory and our betterment. Deut. 6:24, Jer. 29:11-14.

Christian fellowship without going to church?

As many qualms I have with "churches," God wouldn't place you in an area without giving you a body of believers to fellowship with as a local church. That's his plan for mission. He'll take care of placing you in a body believers in which you can grow and serve.
