  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    The Importance Of Conservatism

Income inequality is insignificant in this. Economic mobility is what matters. There are plenty of countries with low income inequality where everyone is dirt poor. I can guarantee those people would rather live in a society with high income inequality but also with high economic mobility...

    The Importance Of Conservatism

Just a side note here, but American political parlance often conflates progressive with liberal. Most of the American left is not liberal. It's progressive. So to expand on the original post, we really have 3 sides at work here. Conservatives are on the right, liberals are in the middle (for...

    Socialism is contrary to faith.

Most line workers would be terrible at running a major company as well, so everyone has their purpose and capabilities. It's why division of labor works. Humans are not one-size-fits-all. It's also why some people are rich and some are poor. Many become rich through a combination of...

    Socialism is contrary to faith.

The most elitist systems that exist are either Communist or State Capitalist. A system that is closer to a free market capitalism offers the least elitism and the most economic mobility. State Capitalism is just a statist corruption of capitalism that only vaguely operates with a "market."...

    Socialism is contrary to faith.

Depends on the system. Communism is a form of socialism, and many of those systems forced everyone to work or starve. Granted, many starved regardless of work.

    Socialism is contrary to faith.

There's an important difference between envy and ambition. Capitalism encourages people to work for more resources. You could say it creates a desire for more in life in general. Envy and coveting things implies that you believe you are owed something that someone else has. Socialism is for...

    Socialism is contrary to faith.

If by guardrails, you mean certain rules that respect property and labor rights, I agree. Most other regulations only serve to benefit elites that have friends in government. Social Security is a ponzi scheme that was intended to be temporary in the beginning. Today, it just robs workers of a...

    Socialism is contrary to faith.

For the majority of this country's existence, Social Security didn't exist. Neither did the welfare state. Charity and churches did just fine with handling poverty. When people voluntarily share resources, that's great. When it's coerced by government, it's tyranny.

Outrage as Florida Republicans pass ‘fascist’ bill to remove trans kids from parents’ custody

Someone who desires to be the sex that doesn't match their body is, by definition, not of sound mind. Medical professionals have a strong monetary incentive to favor the surgery and hormone treatments involved. This isn't about health. It's about profit. The same could be said for vaccines now.

Christian Viewpoint On The Gun Debate

We're not in as much disagreement as you think. I also don't want the union of church and state, at least in the modern world. I distrust the state almost completely, which is why I don't want them to have power over gun access and other means of defending yourself.

Christian Viewpoint On The Gun Debate

Yet Constantine's conversion to Christianity is a huge part of why Christianity survived into the modern age. He believed God was the reason behind his successes on the battlefield. In practical terms, it wasn't martyrdom that allowed Christianity to thrive. It was conquest. Now, I'm not...

Christian Viewpoint On The Gun Debate

But as you just said, it is a culture. Culture manifests in actions and values.

Christian Viewpoint On The Gun Debate

So what exactly defines the "spiritual health of the Church" if not culture?

Christian Viewpoint On The Gun Debate

Joseph clearly trusts the state more than us plebs. I'm sure that mindset fits in well with life in the Philippines. That country is known well for its authoritarianism.

Christian Viewpoint On The Gun Debate

That's a common misconception of Romans 13. But hey, I'm sure Hitler, Stalin, and Mao would have loved your interpretation of it.
