  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Times are Changing

Exactly...a compilation that you did not actually compile, nor did you explain that you took it from somewhere else. What you did was pass it off as if you had read all these sources and selected the quotes yourself. Whether you like it or not, that counts as immitigable plagiarism. Everything...

    Times are Changing

'we both got it from the same source: BrookLaw.' Curious that you nowhere indicated that in the OP. Know what that means? 'Plagiarism' comes from plagiarius, The Latin word for kidnapper. To plagiarize means to present another person's language or ideas as your own--to give the impression you...

    Times are Changing

So having a friend online who posts the exact same material and adding a little bit of your own somehow 'un'-plagiarizes it for you? ...Okay then. This 'big boy' academic stuff is easier than I thought. Finis, E.L.B.

    What is the New Covenant?

Fine with me. You make a claim, you refuse to back it up, and then shift the onus on other people to 'live up' to your own odd-guy-out obligations. Hope you enjoy making video games, or whatever it is that you do. Finis, E.L.B.

    What is the New Covenant?

I'm not the one claiming credentials...but then again, I am not the odd-guy-out here either. I don't pretend to be anything other than a layman who does his own independent study. (a cut above 'internet' research, mind you; otherwise I'd probably be uncritical of your claims here offered on the...

    What is the New Covenant?

You are the one with the odd-guy-out, I'm right & everyone else is wrong pretensions...not me. So, Mr. computer programmer, as an academic, surely you would know that we need proof that your claims are first worth evaluating on the basis of credentials before engaging in the evaluation. Burden...

You wouldn't have copied/pasted the material in the OP from the followng website or some other and tried to pass it off as your own research, would you? Beliefnet Discussions - Beliefnet.com Finis, E.L.B.

    What is the New Covenant?

I'm interested in any of your conspiracy theories. I'll be waiting on a citation from a reputable source. Finis, E.L.B.

What happened when a married man raped a virgin?

You are correct. The result would be a polygamous marriage. Apart from the fact that there is not a word against it except in the cases of a monarch (Dt xvii.17) or a leader in the early ecclesiastical structure (referenced already above by another user), the bible legally sanctions polygamy as...

    What is the New Covenant?

There is no reputable scholar who would translate the Hebrew text as 'renewed' in Jeremiah. Finis, E.L.B.

    Polytheism in the Hebrew Bible

I agree. Yes, that's called 'monolatry', which is a subcategory of polytheism. And it is significant because it fundamentally contradicts the Judeo-Christian view that not only is Yahweh to be alone worshipped, but that he is the only god that exists. Also, I don't know what you mean by...

    Polytheism in the Hebrew Bible

Yes, different gods. The purpose of Yahweh executing judgment on them demonstrates his power over them. That they were believed to have existed if self-evident from the verse (Exodus xii.12) and from the fact that the Egyptian miracle workers derived their power from somewhere--in light of this...

    Polytheism in the Hebrew Bible

If you'd like to consider a great majority of OT scholars as 'cranks', then that's on you. If you actually want to engage in intelligent dialogue let me know. Thanks, E.L.B.

    Polytheism in the Hebrew Bible

    1) Nothing about the passage indicates that it shouldn't be interpreted as it reads. 2) Nothing about the Hebrew suggests that it does not mean what it says. 3) Jewish belief throughout history has not been homogeneous. The oldest strands of Jewish literature leave traces of what many...

    Polytheism in the Hebrew Bible

Yes, and this verse in particular is a clear expression of monolatry (the acknowledgement of the existence of other gods, but reserving worship for one). This is completely false. Tell me, did you think I was born yesterday? Do you think you can just make any blind assertions and expect me to...
