  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Saved and baptism

"not have to do the altar call as well as get baptized." Can someone explain what an altar call is? I had been in a congregation that spoke of such, but in my years of study I see it as follows: The altar is a fixture made of fireproof material to sacrifice animals periodically to God as a sin...

Which would you choose...ESV, NKJV, or HCSB?

Hmm, read the KJV about 3x, then the NKJV many more times, recently went ESV. I will say the following: KJV and NKJV are TR based, NKJV is fine, but I prefer ESV. Consider 1 Jhn 3:6 in the KJV or NKJV. Are you perfect and free from sin? I am not. Consider it in the ESV, now that is more like...

Called to preach? How do I know for sure?

Rathvon I think I feel your calling is similar to mine. In my case I have really excelled in some work fields, for two decades or so. Things are well and positive in the secular world, but... Since a few months back the "I might pastor after retirement" thought has run into something more urgent...

ESV study bible technical detail questions

Hey, thanks Deetwang. Just for those who might have the same questions. I ended up getting a Personal Size S.B. and the regular size as well, also got a Student Bible for my son. In evaluating all three: The S.B. is just the right size to read for lengths of time, and has great notes. The...

I am considering purchasing ESV study bibles for my family this week. Some technical questions... The three they have are Student Bible, Study Bible Personal Size, and Study Bible. I am thinking of Student Bible for my 10 year old (he wants it), Study Bible for me (I have no issue with...

Forum for discussion of Bible layout (study Bibles, etc)

Which forum is best to post specific questions about the three ESV groups of study bibles available? Is there a forum "Translations and study bibles." or anything similar? Thanks, Eric

Baptists seeking a new church home, help...

Yes I had stated 12 years ago that I disapproved to my wife. That was the 2nd visit. I was told no-no, we are going there, have friends there?? I then told the pastor of my disagreement. He was unclear in response. Then I told him the same in a small group at church and walked out. I was...

    Gun in church????

Ah, my church, has at least two who carry, and probably others. I do not, here's so much there that I'd have no need to have more. For some it can be an expression of a personality disorder, for some a safety issue. The code of VA had a weak statement against bringing guns in church (poorly...

Baptists seeking a new church home, help...

I agree, I'll be reasonably gentle. The idea is to do it right the first time, not let the family attach to a group then change again. Yes I hear you. I cannot take the Lutheran stance as being mine, but I feel better if at least I gave it a moment of thought. The following video kind of...

Baptists seeking a new church home, help...

Thanks for all the meaningful insight and prayer on this matter. I have investigated all of your suggestions, was part of a Regular Bapt church long ago, great pastor, that was then. We would thrive best in a <10 mile locality. What we do have close enough includes the following: 1)An...

Baptists seeking a new church home, help...

First post here... My family consists of a wife and two children. Due to long term issues at our Ind Fund Baptist Church, and recent worsening of those issues, we must leave the church and find a new path. For a while I have been conservative, Armenian, christian, not fundamentalist. By this I...
