  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Pro-Choice Arguments

Oh yes, I'm not (necessarily) disagreeing with you; I'm just adding to the discussion. :) If only it were that simple.... But is it right to force a person to care for a child if that person doesn't wish to do so, and that person has never indicated his or her desire to care for the child...

    Pro-Choice Arguments

I should also add: Since the father does not get a say, he should not be obligated to pay child support if he does not wish for the fetus to be born, but the woman does. If we force an unwilling father to pay child support, the mother can use this to blackmail the father. She can...

    Pro-Choice Arguments

Ahh, that opens up an entirely new dimension in the abortion debate: Does the father get to have any say in whether the fetus is aborted? I am of the opinion that no, the father does not get a say, because it's not his body that's carrying the fetus. Specifically, the father (or anyone else...

    Abortion is never the answer:

I've looked and I don't see any announcements saying that atheists can't post in this particular forum. So, I'll post if I'm permitted to, and I apologize if I'm posting somewhere I'm not permitted to. ;) Actually, it is very possible that pregnancy could demand the life of the mother. Many...

    Pro-Choice Arguments

(Someone in another thread said that it was recently announced that atheists aren't allowed to post in this forum. I looked for such an announcement, but couldn't find one. I apologize in advance if I'm not supposed to post here, but if I can post, I'd like to. ;)) Ahh, the problem with this...

    Abortion is never the answer:

But how does one look out for others without first looking out for oneself? That's the fundamental problem of altruism: It is logically impossible to help someone else without first taking care of yourself. How do you help someone else if you're dead? You obviously can't, so you first need...

    Abortion is never the answer:

Ahh, and it is here that we see an important part of the defense of abortion rights. There are many ways in which a pregnancy is harmful to the body of the pregnant woman. Fatigue, varicose veins, diabetes, depression, a permanent change in the shape of her body, even the possibility of death...

    Pro-Choice Arguments

Excellent argument! This is similar to an argument I stated a few months ago, but I was not convinced anyone took it seriously, so I stopped posting. But I can now see that someone cares about the rights of the pregnant woman, so I feel empowered to post again. The argument in favor of...

    Natural Rights

The notion of "human rights" is a concept that limits the proper actions that a person may take while living in a society. The key word here is "proper": What are the proper actions that a person may take when living among others? Here we see that rights are a moral concept, as they define...

    What is truth?

Excellent observation! From the long quote in my post #4: "[The axioms that underpin Objectivism] are absolutes which cannot be questioned or escaped: every human utterance, including the denial of these axioms, implies their use and acceptance." For example, as you have pointed out, in order...

    What is truth?

"Existence exists" derives from Aristotle's assertion, "What is, is." It's an acceptance of the primacy of reality, that one cannot make an object cease to exist simply by pretending that it doesn't exist. It's a commitment to honesty to oneself, to maintaining the accuracy of one's knowledge...

    What is truth?

I haven't posted in a while, either. ;) Here's a good topic to comment on. The philosophy of Objectivism might interest you. I understand that a Christian forum is hardly the place to advocate Objectivism (since atheism is an implicit part of it), but since you seem to be searching for...

    In Perspective.

This is a non-sequitur. Our inability to remove organisms from our body has absolutely no relevance with the legality or morality of abortion. Abortion is clearly possible; what difference does it make if there are other organisms present in a woman's body that cannot be removed? (I'm not...

    In Perspective.

Mere location is irrelevant. The only relevant issue is the property of the pregnant woman. Consider this situation (related to the blood transfusion analogy): 1. The fetus is located outside its mother's body--i.e. she has already given birth to it--but it is still attached to its mother via...

Should Americans be worried about creationism?

Hehe...:D If it is the case that creationism is good for America, or it is the case that creationism is bad for America, then "yes" is the proper answer to the question, "Is creationism good or bad for America?" It is indeed one or the other--i.e. it can't be anything else--so "yes" is...
