  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Distinguishing between right and wrong

I even have a hard time labeling these actions as wrong. I don’t think, for example, that it’s wrong to kill in self defense. And I can think of a few instances where lying to protect someone would be the moral thing to do. The standard examples include lying to Nazis to protect Jews (I know...

    Burning the American Flag

Had to think about this. I think it’s amoral. The act of burning a flag in protest had no moral weight in and of itself. Rather what should be judged is the intent and the statement of the person doing the protest. As to the “it disrespects our veterans” line, I know this is anecdotal but I...

Ayn Rand and the "kindergarten of communism"

I don’t know if calling it “vile” is fair. It’s wrong. She’s just wrong about some things. That doesn’t make her vile or evil, it just makes her wrong. As she said, “in a disagreement it is reality that is the arbiter.” I will say I think she’s widely misunderstood.

Ayn Rand and the "kindergarten of communism"

It could be argued that such principles are followed for self interested reasons. Doing these things will make a person happier, is the claim. Or will save them from hell, or allow salvation, or whatever.

Ayn Rand and the "kindergarten of communism"

I disagree with her on that. But I disagree with her on a lot. Rand assumes people are rational. They’re not. One of my earliest disagreements with her was her assumption that religion was purely evil and those who run it are only in it for evil. She compares them to communist dictators. I...

If you could remove one evil from the world

Depends on what you mean by evil. If it’s anything that causes harm or suffering, malaria. By a wide margin. If we are only referring g to human actions then child abuse in any form. We have a lot of messed up adults, messed up for their whole lives, who were beaten, neglected, or repeatedly...

    Barron Trump bullied

That’s really too bad. I dislike that man, but his son didn’t choose his father. He should not be bullied because of the actions of someone else.

    Is a moderate party viable?

Is there room for a moderate party? Obviously. In terms of political affiliation we have the two axis’s, the economic (socialist vs capitalist) and government size (authoritarian vs libertarian). Both parties are pretty settled into the authoritarian capitalist quarter of that chart. I know of...

Am I Wrong in This Thinking?

    1) It depends. Before I went to college I worked in a retail type job and didn’t own a phone, just a landline. And for a while after I didn’t get one. But I have a professional job now and I am expected to be accessible whether I’m at my desk or not. Granted, my company has offered to give me...

If Jesus was on earth now would he be vegan?

Interesting. My thought is no, he wouldn't be vegan. Jesus was a poor traveling Rabi, and vegan diets are cost and time prohibitive. it requires a lot of time and thought be put into food preparation and selection, as well as the purchasing of supplements. Would Jesus support a vegan diet as...

Shouldn’t euthanasia be compulsory for sick old people?

Mandatory euthanasia is murder. A person has a right to make their own choice and control their own body. I have made my advance directive. If in the event of severe trauma I have opted out of extreme medical intervention in favor of pain management and hospice care. I have made that choice...

    Religous freedom versus Child neglect

Who am I to disagree? A woman with a body, that's who. And in no way would I ever consent to having part of my body disfigured for a religious rite. And it is rather telling that no adult women are volunteering for this practice. No, it's done to young girls who either don't or can't consent...

    Religous freedom versus Child neglect

There is a place to say certain cultural or religious decision are harmful. And I will absolutely say that. It does not matter that FGM is a cultural or religious practice, it is still a barbaric thing done to girls who can not give consent and cripples them sexually for life. It does not matter...

    Religous freedom versus Child neglect

Absolutely not. Adults have the right to believe whatever they want. They can believe in faith healing, refuse blood transfusion, whatever. But a child is at the mercy of adults to make decisions for them, they cannot make their own medical choices and before a certain age aren't mentally...

Satanic Display made available to children

So my response to the satanist is "meh." Although I do like the Yule and saturnalia displays, as well as the bill of rights nativity. The pastor is a jerk, and isn't putting forth the best face. So these displays don't bother me so long as they're inclusive. A few years ago there was a story...
