  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Nature’s Destiny - Michael Denton

Thanks. Yes, these books are on my (long) reading list already. I read Miller’s “Only a theory” a couple of years ago and I don’t think I was comfortable with it but I would need to revisit to remind myself. There are so many ideas out there that it’s difficult to find a “home” unless you just...

    Nature’s Destiny - Michael Denton

No that’s not what I’m saying. I’m only going to interact with those who have read Denton’s book (or similar) and actually address my question. I’d say that all Christians believe in an entirely supernatural creation but may differ in how they define creation.

    Nature’s Destiny - Michael Denton

So, where in the above extract Denton says that the atmospheric gases transmit only the biologically useful electromagnetic radiation to the earths surface - why could it not simply be the case that they are only useful because life has made it useful as it’s the only radiation available...

    Nature’s Destiny - Michael Denton

This is probably my fault but we’re going way off piste here in widening this out to a general creation v. Evolution question. I am well aware that Denton does not deny evolution took place (although he has serious issues with neo-Darwinism). I am not a YEC - I am not fully settled in my...

    Nature’s Destiny - Michael Denton

Yes, reading the book would be good but taking the attached example from the book and anticipating the challenge from an atheist that it’s the other way around (Life evolved to fit these conditions rather than nature being remarkably fit for carbon-based life), what would Denton’s response be?

    Nature’s Destiny - Michael Denton

Ah....the “many prominent scientists” argument . I’m looking for a Christian to address my specific question but thanks for your input.

    Nature’s Destiny - Michael Denton

Many thanks for responding and for pointing me to these videos (I think I may have looked at one of these years ago). I am quite widely read at the popular science book level so I have a general feel for the arguments. Are you suggesting that Michael Denton doesn’t understand evolution?

    Nature’s Destiny - Michael Denton

I found this book to be outstanding but was troubled all the way through by a little voice in my head saying: “But what if it’s the other way around? What if life has evolved to fit all these conditions?” To save me hours of trawling the Internet for an answer, can anyone help please? With a...
