  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If Jesus Was God, Who Was He Praying To? [moved from CA]

Let's look at the word "beget". From Dictonary.com: 1. (esp. of a male parent) to procreate or generate (offspring). 2. to cause; produce as an effect. From American Heritage Dictionary: 1. to father; sire. 2. to cause to exist or occur; produce In both definitions, when someone is...

If Jesus Was God, Who Was He Praying To? [moved from CA]

If you look a verse or two ahead of John 8:58, you will see that Jesus said that "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: he saw it, and was glad." (verse 26) What day was Abraham rejoicing to see? It was the day of the Messiah that would come. He was looking for the kingdom that would be...

    WHat happens at death??

In Acts 1:9, the word "cloud" is translated from the word nephele (Strong's Number 3507). The description is given that it is "used of the cloud which led the Israelites in the wilderness. Or if you will, when Jesus was taken from their sight, he went into the clouds. Now in Hebrews 12:1...

    WHat happens at death??

That's a good question. Perhaps they were resurrected in much the same way as Lazarus. Not resurrected to eternal life, but just brought back to life. No matter how you look at it, they were on earth and not in heaven.

    WHat happens at death??

Oh yes, Jesus has resurrected. But the resurrection that will happen at his second coming hasn't happened yet. That is the resurrection I speak of. I don't doubt that Jesus is King and that he has a kingdom, it's just that the kingdom has not been established yet. When he returns he will...

    WHat happens at death??

If you will look at what the thief said prior to Jesus' comment, he said "remember me when you (Jesus) come into your kingdom." Now since Jesus has not come into his kingdom yet, since the resurrection and Christ's return have not happened yet, then what Jesus said was a promise to the thief...

    Jesus In Hell?

So one is not the other, then which is the grave?

    Jesus In Hell?

It has been asked if Jesus was in Hell. He was since scripturally speaking, hell is the grave. Hell is an English word derived from the Anglo-Saxon word “helan”, which means “to cover” or “to hide out of sight”. The Old Testament was originally written in...

    the Trinity

Well said. You're correct in that the passage doesn't end with verse 1. As is shown in verse 14, the Word became flesh. Now, if we regard this Word/Logos as the "statement, Speech, or expressed idea" that is the primary definition of the word, we can see that it is the "expressed idea" that...

    Do animals have souls?

A quick search in the Blue Letter Bible: Job 33:22 - Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers. Psalms 30:3 - O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. Psalms 49:15 - But God will...

Where in scripture does it say that souls are eternal?

The false doctrine of the immortality of the soul (or State of the Dead).

You've responded without really answering my questions. You say that it is our spirit that is reborn. You're telling me the what, but there was more to the question. Again I ask, when a person is “born again”, which of these (spirit, soul, body) is reborn, when is it reborn, and how is it...

The false doctrine of the immortality of the soul (or State of the Dead).

We seem to have gone off on a tangent from the topic of this thread about the “immortality of the soul”. You have mentioned that we are made up of three parts - spirit, soul, and body. When a person is “born again”, which of these is reborn, when is it reborn, and how is it reborn? If...

The false doctrine of the immortality of the soul (or State of the Dead).

Eila, Sorry for the delay in responding. [/FONT] While we are made in the image of God, we do not have immortality, which is what this discussion had started out to be about. No, I interpret “soul” in this verse to mean our life. But again, how does this show that the soul is an...

The false doctrine of the immortality of the soul (or State of the Dead).

I don’t really see where this shows “an immaterial part of man that exists apart from the body beyond death”. If this is going to be understood to show the soul as a separate part of us, then each of us would be two men. Again, not really showing “an immaterial part of man that exists apart...
