  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It's a great play. Though, I forgot that Arthur Miller was such a diehard atheist. Some of his commentary is highly critical of religion.

I'm currently teaching The Crucible to my eleventh graders. One of the characters, a slave named Tituba, is from Barbados. I didn't know where that was located, so I Googled it. Barbados is an island in the Caribbean Sea / West Indies:

Prep is a terrible book. It has no plot! I wish I would've known that before I wasted my time reading 200+ pages, waiting and hoping for SOMETHING of importance/interest to happen. Now I must consult my TBR list and decide on a new book to read.

I completely agree. Funnily enough, a guy at work just yesterday told me, "I don't read fiction. I don't want to get what's story mixed up with what's reality." I think he's missing out! Stories always mirror reality in some way, either the world we live in or the nature of the human heart.

    What's on your mind?

Thank you for taking the time to share this. I appreciate it. I think my struggle is a bit different than the one expressed here. My salvation doubts don't stem from external circumstances or emotions but my lack of good fruit (John 15:5-8; Matthew 3:7-10; Matthew 13:22; Galatians 5:22-24) and...

I am comforted to know that there are others like me - Now, what about salvation?

I relate very strongly. (I've never considered it OCD, but everything you mention is something I struggle with.)

I liked A Separate Peace. I enjoy the prestigious-school-with-intense-friendships-and-rivalries "genre," so I'm gonna read another book in the same vein, Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld. (Though, judging by the review on the cover, this one might feature more identity politics than what I prefer.)...

I finished reading A Separate Peace today. While reading it, I learned about something called a "Section Eight discharge." Here's what the character in the book says about it: Sounds awful. Thankfully, it's no longer used. Here's some information from Wikipedia: The Wikipedia page even...

A couple different synopses of the book from Amazon: "Set at a boys' boarding school in New England during the early years of World War II, A Separate Peace is a harrowing and luminous parable of the dark side of adolescence. Gene is a lonely, introverted intellectual. Phineas is a handsome...

    The Venting Thread

I would have to make a call to someone with a master key—either a janitor or a school administrator. I don't wanna put anyone out of their way on a holiday weekend, especially when the weather is this terrible.

    The Venting Thread

Uggghll, I'm irritated. So, I quickly pop into the school to grab some books I need for lesson planning. On my way out, I close my classroom door. It automatically locks. The moment I hear the lock click, I remember that my classroom and car keys are still sitting on my desk! On Monday morning...

Interesting! I think the most interesting food I've ever eaten was a century egg. My Developmental Psychology professor, a woman from Taiwan, offered century eggs to the whole class, but only a couple of us were willing to try them. I felt very proud of my bravery lol. But in defense of those...
