  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Enlisted Life

I was talking with someone who was in the military in the 70's (he called me to talk about it for some reason), and he said don't leave college for it, as he said life sucked, he was treated like dirt, etc compared to the officers(he was in the National Guard). Is this still true for enlisted...

    Navy Life

Thanks for the reply. Maybe it would be better to specify though, what are living conditions like ashore and at sea for enlisted servicemen?

    Navy Life

If I may ask everyone (for those who have been in the Navy), what was life like aboard both a ship and while ashore? What were the living conditions like? Thank you.

    Life After Military

True. I was thinking about doing something in the medical field. With such a huge need for people in this area, I'm sure the field experience would be incredibly helpful, as well as the college credits that I could probably earn by taking the military training for this area (so that one day I...

    Life After Military

Hey everyone :). I know the military seems to be very big about preparing people for getting jobs in civilian life (if you leave the military at all). From your experience (and from talking with others), does the military really do that good a job with this? Thanks for your advice.

    Joining Eastern Rite

Yes, and the Bishops/priests of both rites may ask why you are switching. In other words, I think there must be a good reason to switch rites.

    Online Chats/Body Fat

What is your experience with them? I have used the Navy and Air Force ones (on their recruiting sites). The guy from the Air Force I talked to was very abrupt and seemed annoyed by me asking a question, but the Navy ones have all been cool. I was also surprised to learn that the Air Force...

    Military or College?

Thanks. Yeah, I'm not going to a big name school either (it is a private college, but its not big name), but the thought of doing it all over again isn't pretty. It's one of those things where its like, one time is enough. It wasn't murder to do it one time, but at the same time, not...

    Military or College?

Thanks everyone. Daveleau, is enlisted service really that bad, lol? I've met some great civilian firefighters, and they have been very insightful and inspiring. Asherz, I see what you mean. I guess the big thing for me is weighing my options. I really don't know if I want to go...

    Military or College?

Thanks. Is it hard to get them to agree to write down that I will get this job or that job if I join?

    Military or College?

Thanks everyone for your replies :). I am curious though, how likely is someone to get the job they want to do in the military (ie, I would like to do for example maybe something with medical or firefighting, is there a good chance I could get one of these positions, or is getting the job you...

    Military or College?

I graduated from High School last week, and am prepared to leave for college in August. However, as the time gets nearer to go to college, I have begun thinking about the military (particularly the Navy) more and more. The reason why I want to join is that I want to get out and see the world...

    Chant

Wow, thats interesting. I wonder where Swahili chant got its roots (Greeks, maybe)?

    Chant

Thats what I was thinking, but I didn't think they had their own chant (the OO do, but unless that is OO chant, I don't think the EO have any African chants that I've heard before).
