  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hook me in 20 words or less

I figured you would probably cry when you read the end of this book, so I ripped it out. (...just a jab at humour :P ...)

    How do you write? (Plot)

Hi guys. For me it varies. I always have an idea of where I'm going. Sometimes I write out a basic plot. Sometimes just a character sketch (very loose, tho :P ). Sometimes just an idea. With one script, I "boarded" every scene - I took the important details of the scene and put...

    When friends are right

Provided you analyze the analysis, so to speak, friends can prove invaluable tools in perfecting your work. I've had this happen a LOT, much to my constant depression :P. Luckily though, it always seems to help me. F'rinstance, after so many critical analyses and countless rejections, I can...

    Facing Taboo

Mate, I couldn't agree with you more. I think terrorism in a fantasy setting could take you far. Not that your works should be based on Tolkien, heheh, but if you look at it, he based his books on two things: Nazism and Modernism. The one a physical and life-threatening evil, the...

    A Question of Story Structure

No, you were clear about those things. I was just using the superhero/supervillain bit as reference for the way it's usually (and usually horribly) done. And about the middle, I misread something you wrote. :D  I'm going to see The Dark Knight today! Heard on the radio, some guy...

    A Question of Story Structure

Hey mate, good to see you back! Hmm. I'll try to arrange my thoughts in as non-random way as possible. :P The Loose Plan- I agree a little with Lindon, it's been done, but heck, what hasn't? If you did it right, it would work great (but then, anything done right works great, lol)...

    Fantasy Magic

DANG YOU ALL!!!! Why does everyone feel the need to stop wars before they start?!?!?! jk. :P On the topic of wands (never been a PM person), an aside (I like those (if you aven't noticed, I like parentheses too (:P))): Gandalf's staff was described in "The Hobbit" as a "wand." WOO.

    The Anti-Guide!

lol. Nah, I was remembering that debate we had in the "What You Want In Fantasy" thread about how women are strong. ;) Speaking of societies, they also have to fit into one of these archetypes- 1.) Civilized, intelligent, sophisticated, "culturalized", researchers, astrologers...

    The Anti-Guide!

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, back up here... Did YOU just write that? :P BOT, Your villain must be unquestionably attracted to your female lead. He's always loved her, but it's not for good reasons. There's also the option that your hero is a stubborn bullhead (there's another...

    Vampires

Vampires could be found in Tolkien, but only in ancient history sort-of-stuff. They, along with werewolves, were the servants of Sauron, I believe, back when he was Morgoth's lieutenant. The Elder Scrolls (a fantasy video game series) survived vampirism, but only because they allowed you the...

Anyone know a good site / forum about screenplays?

www.wordplayer.com is a great site, written by Terry Rossio (co-writer of the Shrek movies, the POTC movies, Disney's Alladin, among others). If you're looking to improve your craft, I recommend memorizing every word (except Column 31 or 32 (the one called "A Hot Script", I think you can figure...

    Fantasy Magic

 How'd I miss this? cries. Well, now that it's been officially resurrected (necromancy!!! :ebil:), I guess I'll post (being bored adds to this decision). A very far aside: The creator of the ever-popular Dungeons & Dragons (who I think died recently >_>, can't remember his name...
