  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Who is God?

That's a simplistic view. Beware those who construct the world in binaries... They are the witch burners, crusaders, suicide bombers, and cool-aid drinkers.

    Who is God?

Even if you believe in free will, the only reason I "choose" to sin is because that sinful nature already exists within me. This is where people tend to argue that mankind chose to be sinful; that God didn't make us sinful. Usually this is in reference to original sin, and Adam's choice to eat...

    Who is God?

Why is everyone so stuck on this author analogy? Let's skip the metaphor... God supposedly creates each individual. Say that I, an individual, murder another individual. Who's responsible for the action, me or the creator? I'd say both... God may not have "made me do it," but he made me want to...

    Once saved, always saved?

By the way, bullying is a bad evangelical technique.

    Once saved, always saved?

Yes, human suffering is caused by humans, but it is also caused by chance and the natural world. The problem I have is not whether God is directly causing it or not (if He was causing it, he would obviously not be a loving God) but that He allows it to occur. I stand by the maxim that if a...

    Once saved, always saved?

I currently consider myself a former Christian. When I was 14 I prayed for salvation, accepted Christ and the Holy Spirit and all that, and I was ardently religious for the next 4-5 years. In the year I spent working between high school and college my faith slackened. By the time I was a...

    Who is God?

"Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6 I've been told by many Christians that the only way to heaven is to accept Christ and the holy spirit into your heart... Are you implying that Christianity is not exclusive?

is it ok to have sex with my girl friend

Yup. Not many periods in there. None, actually. Random capital letters are also strewn about the sentence. Son, are you old enough to know what sex is?

    Who is God?

He's not assigning responsibility, he's recognizing it. This is another one of those analogies "The Paul" loves so much. The potter is responsible for the shape of the clay ... the pot doesn't need to assign responsibility, it can't, the potter takes responsibility himself by forming the...

    Who is God?

I posted this elsewhere on the site, but I think that this is also a good forum to discuss the question, and to get more variety in responses. Okay, I'm just going to lay it all out on the table. Here goes... God created mankind. Mankind has a sinful nature. Therefore, God created mankind...

If God loves us, why does he send us to hell?

Okay, I'm just going to lay it all out on the table. Here goes... God created mankind. Mankind has a sinful nature. Therefore, God created mankind with a sinful nature. Then, God tells mankind "if you sin, you'll go to hell" (whether he physically sends man there or not), or, as many have said...

If God loves us, why does he send us to hell?

Okay, I'll accept your free will argument. But, I think there are some problems with it. When you say that humans are given the choice, does that mean each and every individual? Or, are you referring to original sin as the moment of humanity's choosing? If the former, I would say that people...

If God loves us, why does he send us to hell?

Will no one attempt to answer my questions? Should I start a new thread?

If God loves us, why does he send us to hell?

Let me try to break down your argument into a simple statement: There is no hell, our ideas of hell today are residual of older superstitions used to coerce people into believing in God through fear. There, is that right? If so then I have some questions. So the message of Christ's...
