  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Sunday is it the day of worship for god servant yes or no?

I agree that the back-and-forth produces little of value. I don't believe the day of the week matters. Our primary purpose is to love, worship, honor, and glorify God every day of the week. The calendar change between the Julian and Gregorian calendars required an adjustment. Ten days were...

    30 minutes from now--redux

An answer Luther would appreciate. From "Cyberbrethren": "Thus, the beers of Luther’s era would have been complex, highly flavored, possibly a tad sour and/or cloudy, and would have varied in color, flavor, strength and quality." Peace.

    30 minutes from now--redux

For the amillenialists and others who bristle at either the thought of Christ returning for the faithful in a Rapture or in the thought that there would be any prior alert to the impending call home, I offer an alternative scenario. Consider that you have been given prior notice that your...

    Thirty minutes from now

"God is coming back for me inside of thirty years or so...I shall die physically and be changed in the twinkling of an eye ..." Good answer. In a way, Christ returns in everyone's lifetime. I envy your ability to fall asleep. I don't think that I'd be able to nap knowing I was to be meeting...

Thirty minutes from now Mark 13:33 “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come." That being said and accepted in all faith as true, I ask two...

Mark 13:33 “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come." That being said and accepted in all faith as true, I ask two questions: 1. What would be...

    30 minutes from now

What would your emotional reaction be if you found out that Jesus Christ was returning in 30 minutes to take the faithful to Heaven? What would you do for that 30 minutes?

    Elca Cwa 2009

May another ELCA congregant take refuge in this thread? Until our synod began to embrace approval of homosexual couples, I struggled with the marginalization of the Scriptures in the church. In all truth, I am not fully ELCA. I am an avid student of C. S Lewis, likely a 2 or 3-point...

    Current ELCA Crisis

"Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up." Deuteronomy 11:19 The Scriptures are so much more than simply what is read or sung in church on Sunday. It is the Word that we read, study, hide in...

    Current ELCA Crisis

I am an ELCA Lutheran with roots back to the LCA in the 1950's. I am an Arminian/Calvanist hybrid. I believe in the inerrancy of the Scriptures. Once we assume the power and authority to discount or dismiss any part of the Scriptures, we place ourselves on a very slippery slope. If we presume...

Is this the best we can do?

The world is getting hungrier. Some developing nations are no longer even at the table. An increasing number of Haitians are subsisting on "mud biscuits" made from clay, a bit of salt, and margarine or oil. Sort of adds a horrible dimension to the term "dirt poor." The US government is most...

    Lectio Divina

I recently encountered the form of prayer called Lectio Divina. There are strong feelings and arguments for and against it. Some claim it circumvents the fact that the Bible is sufficient for all purposes and adds some of the qualities of Transendental Meditation to the Christian faith...
